presentation of the 999 R 2006

a true Superbike with turn signals, Ducati's most accomplished machine gets a little facelift for the autumn season. The 2005 999 R takes refinement a step further, raising the bar set by its predecessor. Still made entirely of carbon, the fairing has been slightly reworked around the forkhead: the 2 air vents above the forced-air intakes have disappeared. Protection should improve slightly with the adoption of a higher bubble.
As for the chassis, the Italian factory remains faithful to the (improved) Öhlins suspension and Brembo radial brakes. A new, reinforced swingarm has been added, with an aluminum axle support. New carbon parts reduce dry weight to 181 kg.
Less weight but more power - that's the golden rule, and the 999 R is no exception. The twin produces 11 hp more than the previous version and spits out 150 horsepower. To achieve this, the engineers worked hard on the cylinder head: titanium valves with increased diameter, higher compression ratio, modified valve seats and guides... The electronic control unit has seen its computing power increased, the cylinders are new and gas circulation improved.
The price shouldn't budge, and that's just as well. The 30-bar price tag for this jewel is reserved for the wealthy and privileged (France has only had 11 2004 Ducati 999 R models - I was lucky enough to see one on vacation on the Mediterranean coast). But is it necessary to talk about money to ride Laconi's bike?

i've had a 999 for 2 years now and I'm very, very satisfied with it. It's 40,000 km long and I've never had any problems on mountain roads, which is a real pleasure. before I drove a jap, it worked pretty well too, but my next machine will be a ducati until death!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rating : 5/5

Great stuff...pfiuuuuu!!!
But they sell the tools with it, because they say that when you ride hard, you lose the parts of the grinding wheel.....too much vibration it seems, annoying in the middle of 280 to lose his fender, at least for the one behind!!!
But look: 200% top

The design isn't bad, but I still prefer the previous one, but to each his own...it's a very nice twin with a nice character that goes with it, another nice bike that keeps the Ducati myth alive...;) Rating : 5/5

That's the difference between industry and craftsmanship! It doesn't go any faster than any other bike (although with 280+ lap times, you wonder where you can get them out of...), but when it comes to the killer detail, there's no comparison between titanium valves, carbon fairings and so on... As far as reliability is concerned, the Italians have made great strides, as have the British: it was either that or go out of business. I've got a 7 1/2 from the same brand with 50,000 kilometers on the clock, and it's still going strong, so I guess the top of the range is at least that good. Of course the price is a deterrent, but it won't go out of fashion in 6 months like any other sports car from the Far East. Rating : 5/5

clearer and better than my 650 sv... Rating : 5/5
