presentation of the 1100 Scrambler Sport 2019
The Scrambler is now available in 3 displacements: 400 - 800 - 1100. With the big 1079 cm3 Desmodue, Ducati's vintage motorcycle gains confidence, torque and presence. It's no longer a beach, wheel, waves and summer party toy; it's becoming a slightly more serious motorcycle, but still a scoundrel. In short, a bigger version of the same.
Serious is a relative term. But when it comes to the Sport version, we're not laughing so hard, and we're giving a hard time to fans of... sport. Too easy, but so obvious. The 1100 Scrambler is not a café-racer, but it does pay particular attention to dynamic efficiency. And to achieve this, Ducati calls on its favorite equipment suppliers to boost its top-of-the-range models: Öhlins and Brembo.
The Scrambler 1100 Sport has a very unmistakable look. Confident, polished and well-dressed, it doesn't need to overdo it, and exudes a very natural class. Black has pride of place on the bodywork, which makes the advantages of this edition all the more apparent: the yellow stripes running the length of the bike, the perimeter of the interchangeable aluminum tank sides, and above all, the Öhlins damping. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the efficiency and road feel provided by the Swedish suspension, highlighting the most muscular Scrambler in the range. It features a 48 mm inverted fork and a top-quality shock absorber, both fully adjustable.
As with other 1100 Scramblers, the Sport is equipped with Brembo M4.32 4-piston radial brake calipers. Brake hard, insistently and confidently. But if you're going to make a tougher version, why not fit M50s?
This version completes its differences with a specific, stitched seat and low handlebars.
What about power? It's 86 hp for everyone, and 9 mkg with the twin-valve engine. Almost wise values, yet perfectly in tune with this bike's philosophy. Late 90s character, responsive mid-range and the pride of having powered the latest version of the big air Monster.
The latter had already tasted the new technological era, with fuel injection, ABS and traction control. For the 1100 Scrambler, whether Sport, Standard or Special, the bar has been raised. The in-house technologies are just right, with active ABS in corners, 4-stage disconnectable traction control, ride-by-wire, 3 riding modes (Active, Journey, City), all-LED lighting + daytime running lights, an under-seat USB socket and a 2-screen digital instrument panel.
Thus equipped, the 1100 Scrambler can be paraded while offering another version of the Sport. Not that of streetfighters, sportbikes or café-racers - its own. It's the kind of neo-retro that doesn't give a damn about performance, only about demonstration.
