The Fantic Caballero 700: between tradition and modernity
Fantic Motor raised expectations for its big scrambler, the Caballero 700. This motorcycle offers a successful blend of traditional design, reminiscent of the classic motorcycle, and modernity through its equipment and powertrain. It remains to be seen whether it will meet with the success it deserves.
The Caballero myth
The story of Fantic Motor began in Italy in 1968. In its early days, the brand concentrated on the small-displacement models popular in Italy. In 1969, at the Milan Motor Show, it presented the Caballero 50 cm3. This model was a runaway success, with up to 10,000 units produced annually, making it the most widely produced moped (50 cm3) in Italy. Building on this success, Fantic subsequently increased the displacement and won numerous Enduro races, including the Six Days.
These are the historical roots of the current model. The Caballero, after a reappearance in a 500 cm3, single-cylinder version, is evolving once again to become a more versatile motorcycle. Far from being just another roadster or modern trail bike, this Caballero is positioned in the neo-retro segment, like the Triumph 900 Scrambler and Ducati Scrambler, while adding a touch of exclusivity linked to Italian craftsmanship.

Riding with elegance
At first glance, the Caballero 700 inspires admiration. Its lines are simple, flowing and natural, with no frills and well-thought-out details such as the small headlight and number plates. Its timeless design guarantees that it will never go out of fashion.
The Caballero features all the hallmarks of the scrambler style: a small, round headlight with integrated LED daytime running light, wide handlebars, side exhaust and spoked wheels (19" front and 17" rear). The tires chosen are Pirelli Scorpion STR, a versatile compound in keeping with the spirit of the machine, designed to perform well on both road and track. The instrument panel is a 3.5-inch TFT color display with Bluetooth connection.
A modern chassis under a beautiful skin
The Caballero 700 rests on a new tubular steel beam frame that wraps around the engine, extended by a cast aluminum swingarm. The frame's side plates, fork tees and fork legs are machined from solid aluminum.
In terms of suspension, Marzocchi supplies a 45 mm inverted front fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock mounted on pushrods, offering 150 mm of travel. Braking is provided at the front by a 330 mm disc with a 4-piston Brembo caliper, and at the rear by a 240 mm disc with a single-piston Brembo caliper. The braking system is controlled by an inertial-computer ABS that can be deactivated. The fuel tank has a capacity of 13 liters. Fantic claims a dry weight of 175 kg, giving a kerb weight of 195 kg with all fluids.

Engine: Japanese heart, Italian spirit
Fantic Motor has opted for an established engine block to power its big scrambler: Yamaha's CP2 parallel twin, widely acclaimed for its character, performance and Euro5 compliance. This engine already powers the MT-07, Ténéré 7 and the "sporty" R7 models.
However, Fantic has not contented itself with integrating it as is. The Italian manufacturer has reworked the intake, exhaust gas management and engine mapping to adapt the twin-cylinder's character to the spirit of the Caballero.
The 689 cm3 engine develops 74 hp at 9,000 rpm. It offers a highly available and constant torque of 60 Nm from the lowest rpm down to 8,000 rpm, with a torque peak of 70 Nm reached at 6,500 rpm. This twin-cylinder engine is therefore particularly full. Approved fuel consumption is 4.9 l/100km, giving a theoretical range of close to 250 km with the 13-liter fuel tank.
In terms of assistance, the Scrambler is equipped with ABS and traction control, both of which can be deactivated. Three riding modes can be selected from the handlebars: Street, Offroad and a fully customizable mode.

Accessible hand-sewing
Despite the exclusivity of certain parts and the quality of the machine, Fantic manages to offer its Caballero 700 for under 10,000 euros, down to 9,290 euros for the 2025 version. Its originality and beauty are not reflected in the price. What's more, it's more powerful and less expensive than Triumph's Scrambler 900 or Ducati's entry-level Scrambler. As a result, it has everything it takes to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors. 2-year parts and labor warranty
