presentation of the CRF 450 R 2015
With the 2015 CRF 450 R, Honda offers its customers the chance to multiply their chances of a podium finish! The engine has undergone a number of significant changes: a redesigned cylinder head, a new exhaust system and, above all, the introduction of a handlebar-mounted control offering a choice of three injection mappings. Whether you're an amateur, expert or professional rider, you'll be able to get the most out of this machine, whatever the riding conditions.
frame: a subtle balance
the CRF 450 R retains its 6th-generation aluminum double-beam frame. Lightweight yet durable, it centralizes mass and lowers the center of gravity, reducing the bike's inertia and making it easier to turn on the ground and in the air. The new structure also features different levels of stiffness in different zones, to enhance the rider's sensations, especially when landing jumps. Last but not least, the geometry of the chassis reinforces liveliness and motricity when cornering.
suspension: efficiency and feedback
already a top performer in terms of grip and liveliness in bends, KAYABA's ø 48 mm PSF2 oleo-pneumatic fork makes further progress, particularly in the transition between compression and rebound. The benefits: 10% less friction, more efficient suspension and improved feedback.
At the rear, Kayaba's compact, fully adjustable shock absorber is combined with a Pro-Link system and an aluminum swingarm. This contributes to lowering the machine's center of gravity and ensures optimum connection with the rear axle.
Braking performance is enhanced by an enlarged 260 mm front disc, complemented at the rear by a 240 mm disc.
engine: à la carte mapping!
a redesigned cylinder head, new ducts and a redesigned exhaust system: thanks to this recipe, the 2015 version of the 449 cm3, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, PGM-FI-injected engine gains in power and torque.
What's more, by adopting a new, configurable mapping management system (EMSB - Engine Mode Select Button), the engine instantly becomes more usable. At the touch of a button on the handlebars, you can now choose its "behavior" à la carte from three modes, depending on riding conditions - a huge "plus" for the amateur rider.
three mapping modes:
- Mode 1 uses standard ignition and injection curves to deliver balanced power and torque characteristics.
- Mode 2 is suitable for low-grip conditions (e.g. mud) and favors throttle control to make the most of available traction.
- Mode 3 delivers more explosive power, making it easier to get out of deep, soft sand.
You can even fine-tune Modes 2 and 3 using the parameter-setting system developed by HRC.
the trim: for the ultimate in ergonomics
a model of ergonomics, the CRF 450 R's bodywork applies the principle of "triangular proportions". In concrete terms, this means that the radiator scoops, side covers, saddle and fuel tank are all smoothly shaped to optimize your freedom of movement. What's more, the slim, flat saddle makes it easier to move forward.
The new colors combine white and red, a long-standing signature of CRFs and Honda racing bikes.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 8 reviews
I chose the brand and displacement of a 4-stroke because it was low-maintenance (slower engine with oil bath lubrication), but less powerful than a 2-stroke with the same displacement, hence the 450 displacement. To tell the truth, a 250 CR 2-stroke would have been more than enough, and it also met my needs in terms of power, but not in terms of maintenance, noise, etc...
The KTM, the other queen of the field, was also on my mind, but having bad memories of the Swedish brand, I didn't want to fall back into the horrors of the past, and even though I know that they've made a lot of progress since then, particularly in terms of reliability, and that today their bikes are up to scratch, I preferred the Honda. So a Honda 4-stroke powerful enough to have fun, what choice did I have?
The 350 CRF L and the 450 CRF.
So I chose the 450 CRF, and I don't regret it.
Pleasant and versatile, smooth and brutal at the same time, powerful but not too powerful, inexpensive to maintain, in short, it's a joy to ride, as those with a vocabulary would say... One criticism, however, but valid for all the bikes in the line-up, is the height of the seat...
Which wouldn't be a problem with a starter, but until 2016 they weren't equipped with one, and as I have a 2016 model... However I'm aware that to have a good riding position and good ground clearance, the bike has to be high, but this is problematic when you have to kick...
So despite my 1m80, I do it on the workshop stand or leaning against a wall, otherwise it's a bit difficult, the seat being perched at 95cm... In summary, you can go for it, I don't think this bike will disappoint you. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Christopher
