presentation of the CBR 600 F 1992

5 years ago, Honda introduced a small sports bike that was soon to become a benchmark in its field. In fact, it's tempting to say that the CBR 600 was the first 600-sport bike to capture the public's imagination.
4 years is also the age of adolescence for the CBR. It's a time when the body changes, the mind and the spirit are released, and when rivals, especially those with long, sharp teeth, are looked upon with suspicion.

yes, for 1991, the CBR is changing. And not just a little. The difference between generations is obvious. The soft, chubby lines of the 1st model give way to a dynamic, almost aggressive silhouette, highlighted by fun colors and the class that characterizes it. It still bears the CBR name, but this is a completely new bike. Frame, looks, engine, power - everything has changed. The finish is good, though not entirely faultless, and some details are a little off, such as the simplistic passenger handle, the sadly black pot (an aluminum look would suit it better) or the wheel-wiper-faux-swingarm reinforcement - it flirts with local tuning and patchwork. With its Sainte-Nitouche look, this sporty bike is a crowd-pleaser, and promises to be kind to everyone: double kickstand, effective rear-view mirror, mounting bar under the passenger seat, natural riding position. The rider sits comfortably, but much further forward than on theold 600.
The most disconcerting thing about the CBR is that it's not disconcerting at all. Easy, straightforward and manoeuvrable, you don't just discover it, you find it. On the first ride, it's as if you've been riding it all your life. But take a look at the gauges, and you'll see it's quite different.

all needles to the right! The machine speeds along, giving its ancestor no chance to tease it. The figures are merciless: at 234 km/h, the CBR version 91 runs 9 km/h faster and kills the 400 m DA with a lead of 3 tenths. When I said that this machine had changed a lot...
It started with a new engine, which now boasts the famous 100 hp mark. It's the first 600 to reach this level of performance; well done! The more compact block saw its timing chain move to the right, its dimensions become even more super-square, and its cylinder head, moving parts and intake evolve significantly. Fueled by 34 mm (+ 2 mm) carburetors, the intake ducts become rectilinear, as on the Stinger and Yam with "Genesis" technology. With a reduced stroke, increased compression ratio, new, differently positioned valves, lightened pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft, the 4-cylinder now revs up to 13,000 rpm (1,000 rpm better) and transmits its watts via a clutch that has been upgraded from 6 to 9 discs, while reducing its dimensions.
Always supple, linear and rather full for a mill of this displacement, the boiler delivers watts from 4,000 rpm up to 8,000. We're then playing with a willing engine, which only reveals its potential beyond 2/3rds of the rev counter. Once into the high rev range, the 600 fires up its pistons and delivers firm, constant thrust right up to the redline.HONDA CBR 600 F It's almost like riding a 750. Do you think I'm exaggerating? At 400 m DA, a Suzuki GSX-R (French version) doesn't do any better.

Honda CBR 600 F 1992 - 1Honda CBR 600 F 1992 - 1

hey, the road isn't all straight lines. And to prove that it's the best of the bunch (the FZR 600 is more than formidable at the moment), the Honda is also changing its entire chassis. A new 41 mm-diameter fork (the old one was 37 mm) and a new aluminum swingarm accommodate generous rims that can be fitted with 120 and 160 tires. The Prolink-type monoshock is mounted almost horizontally. The frame remains a Diamond type with an interrupted steel cradle. It's worth noting that the CBR has put on a few kilos in its transformation. It is now 4 kilos heavier than the FZR, the lightest bike in its class.
Extremely stable, the machine's handling is remarkable, combining dynamics, precision and rigor with astonishing efficiency. On twisty roads, where it's rare to go beyond the top 3 gears, the CBR is fascinatingly agile, making light work of difficulties, putting off tricky situations and, icing on the cake, you don't need to be as skilled as Kocinski to take advantage of its qualities.

Its brakes offer power, endurance and a very good feel; it's a pity that the jaws lack a little bite when they embrace the discs.
A machine so obvious and effective that many sportbikes will have to work hard to keep up. Among the 600s, only the FZR does slightly better, thanks to its even greater agility; the Yam achieves this at the expense of comfort and versatility. The riding position, suspension and overall feel are more sporty.
Speaking of comfort... While the CBR's suspension has improved, the sportbike's good road-holding still lacks protection worthy of the name. At high speeds, it proves too limited.

perhaps in the same way as the VFR, the new CBR 600 achieves a rare level of versatility and efficiency. Start off and choose your destination: mountain, city, circuit, trip, arsouille, enroulade, stroll, it's good for everything... and it has as much fun doing it as you do.

hello, I own a 600 CBR from 199.(92or 93) I bought it without a grey registration number because it only rides on the track, what I'd like to know is how to find out which model it is because to do its maintenance, well ... thank you for the hoped-for answers, Fabrice. Rating : 5/5

i've had it for 12 years and I've never had any problems except for timing chain noise.
I've heard everything and anything from Honda garages in Brussels and Italy
then I ordered a mechanical chain tensioner (50 euros) from the USA to replace the hydraulic tensioner, and since then my beautiful CBR has been purring along and still gives me a lot of pleasure. I wouldn't sell it for anything in the world.

French Legio57 Model 1991
I bought the bike just over two years ago. I also own a 2011 GSR 750, and frankly, the 1991 CBR has little to envy it in terms of handling. As my colleagues say, it's reliable, efficient and versatile. I ride it every year on the Dijon circuit at the Coupe Motoclique Légendes, and it's a real pleasure on the track. 230kmh on the odometer at the end of the straight.

Do you know if it's possible to replace the original fairing fasteners, as previous owners have not been very kind and the plastic is well trimmed (I'm talking about the 1/4-turn fasteners that can be operated with a coin or a large flathead screwdriver). If so, where can I find this part and how can I replace it?
Thanks in advance,

i've been riding it for 6 years and 30,000 km, and I can't find much to reproach it for! mine has 100,000 km and is still a very efficient machine. the street triple and other gsxr 600s from 2001 can't get ahead of it when accelerating!
it's a little more slippery when linking up, but it's still worthy, even on the asphalt of a racetrack.
for track use, it's still necessary to opt for braided brake hoses to avoid a spongy lever after a few laps...
its comfort is exemplary and unique for a sports bike. don't forget that the F stands for fairing, and that the half-handlebars are mounted above the top-tee, while the thick seat enhances the feeling of comfort.
the only drawback is its protection, which may be a little perfectible at high speeds, even if long distances are easily possible. but let's not forget that it's still a sports bike.
The most astonishing point is its reliability. With 100,000kms and a lot of track driving, a carburetor synchro and a valve clearance adjustment done very randomly (more a control than an adjustment in fact!) it's always in good shape!
in three words?
puncture-proof, efficient, versatile
just like a Honda!

i own this motorcycle I push them to 200 kmh, I have not tried more, very good bike holds the road very well, too bad I have a problem with a spark plug I have the screw thread of the culase (spark plug) screwed up, I managed to tinker with it but it turns less well which is normal ^^ Rating : 3/5

Hello, just for advice, having repaired an engine crankcase with no worries, think about redoing a thread on the old one with high-temperature epoxy resin, it works, I confirm....

Apply the mixture to the inside of the screwed-up one, without excess, so that it doesn't fall into the cylinder, screw in a spark plug to create the thread, remove the spark plug, leave to dry for 48 hours, put your spark plug back in, normally, at the top!

i own a 600 cbrf i want to give it to my son who is taking his driving test next year limited to 47hp do you know if we can bridle the machine? Rating : 3/5
French nilsic
To answer Fab.
you won't be able to restrict it to 47hp. And even if you could, the law would forbid it. In fact, with the A2 license, limited to 47hp, the full motorcycle must not exceed twice the bridled power...

I own one from March 1991 / we don't talk about this model here. Just to point out that this original unbraked model (I'm in Switzerland) makes 51 hp, so I'm surprised that the next and previous models make so much hp. Rating : 5/5

To remove the saddle, first remove the rear fairing, secured by three silenblocks and a quarter-turn screw (unscrew the quarter-turn screws, then pull on the fairing from each side and loosen the two nuts under the saddle). Then pull the saddle forward, play a little and it will come off. Rating : 3/5

hi everyone!
i bought the same bike as fred (see above) red and white... 62000km, 1700 euros, and I must admit that for a first bike, it's more than enough, and above all, it drives really well... I'm very happy with it, it's reliable, the aesthetics are still up to date... some of my buddies even want to buy it from me... (it's still in 2008!) and despite its 17 years, it's no match for the others...
a bike I'd recommend to anyone who wants to get into sports bikes!
bonne continuation a tous!
alex.

i recently bought a 1994 model but had to leave it for 5 months without running, due to an external operation. When I came back, it started again on the first try, that sums up the reliability of this bike. I've done 5000 km with it and I'm totally satisfied except for the protection which is a bit tight, so I bought an ERMAX bubble +3cm and that's it. Otherwise, I've adopted a bagster comfort seat and a mivv aluminium silencer, nicer than the original matt black one, and that's it. since then, nothing to say Rating : 5/5

this Cbr 600 is an excellent little sports bike! I had a 1992 model in red/white.I sold it for 1000 euros 2 years ago.it had 126,000 kms (yes!) and didn't consume a drop of oil.I was still going 230 km/h at full throttle 6 (well launched anyway...) and I was easily going 220 km/h at full throttle 5.despite its high mileage, it was still going strong.the only problem I had was with the charging circuit, which flattened the battery + the problem of starting it when the engine was cold.Otherwise, the engine is solid and I only changed the oil on this bike (Motul 100 % synthesis 15w50 "300v"), I didn't touch anything else.the guy who bought it from me went up to 130,000 kms I think.then he crashed it into a car on the freeway.I highly recommend it as a used car, especially for those who are a bit broke (plus it works much better than a Hornet: I tested it for you...)
