from 1987 to 2025CBR 600 - the school of SuperSport
with the release of the CBR 600 in 1987, Honda created the 600 SuperSport class. At the time, it offered 85 hp and a dry weight of just 182 kg. Enough to knock the socks off all the 600 sportbikes of the day, and tickle the fancy of motorcycles in a higher class.
in 1991, the CBR's lines became lighter and more sporty. Power figures confirm this, with the engine developing the symbolic force of 100 hp.
it wasn't until 1999 that the CBR finally received an aluminum frame (its big sister, the 900, had had one since 1992).
2001 saw the introduction of fuel injection and a more sport-oriented "FS" version.
in 2003, the CBR 600 FS is replaced by the RR, and forgets its versatility to become much more track-oriented, in the image of MotoGP's RC 211 V, from which it takes its silhouette. The CBR 600 F continues its career in parallel (for a few years), continuing to offer the superb sport-road compromise for which the machine is renowned.
the CBR 600 evolved in successive stages, featuring an inverted fork and radial brake calipers in 2005. The engine and chassis were extensively revised in 2007. Honda ABS is introduced in 2009
2017 marks the end of its lineage - or so it seems. Honda decides to relaunch it in 2021 in Japan and on the Asian market, with the arrival of beefed-up electronics and CBR 1000 RR-R styling. We'll have to wait until 2024 to see it return to Europe, with a surprisingly tight price tag.
