presentation of the ZX-6RR 600 2008
a supersport bike has a 600 cm3 cubic capacity - and that's that! Maybe not in England, but in Japan, it's going to be like that again. A quick reminder: since 2002, Kawasaki has maintained two ZX-6 R models in its range, a 636 for backpackers and a 600 for racers. For 2007, the manufacturer is no longer bothering with its bastard displacement, in order to concentrate on the development of a single model. Bye bye 636. The engine-makers were thus able to bring their teams together to produce a new engine to give the 600 Ninja 2007 a real shot in the arm. An engine that revs even faster, with polished intake ducts, more mid-range torque and reduced dimensions.
the search for speed appears to be one of Kawa's major development priorities. With a new chassis, Kawa claims to have particularly favored high speeds on corner entry and exit. Mention is also made of the extremely refined aerodynamics.
This may not seem obvious at first glance. The Ninja's fairing seems to have evolved very little, visually speaking. You'll recognize the new ZX-6 RR by its new face - the eyes are inspired by those of the ZX-10 R, a nightlight appears on the tip of the nose, and the central air intake is transformed, losing its Kawa shape for a more... common triangle - and its new rear end
and its new posterior. The space devoted to the exhaust eats up part of the hull. By the way, what happened to this exhaust? Still unique, it now has 2 nostrils to breathe through. All the roadside fittings are fitted underneath, so that they can be dismantled very quickly and rushed out onto the track.
To put on a good show on the track, the Kawa has modernized its racing peripherals: the inverted fork is still there, but new brake calipers, a revised swingarm, and despite the lack of information, we wouldn't be surprised to see the suspension evolve, with different compression ratios. A pleasant surprise: the dashboard has changed, and we're celebrating the return of a clearly visible needle-type tachometer. This new meter unit looks beautifully designed and will undoubtedly be far more functional than its predecessor. And the power? The Ninja has gained another 2 horsepower. But that's not enough to seal its place at the head of the class. When you're one of the heaviest Supersports out there, it's hard to keep up with the times. Its weight puts it at a disadvantage compared to the super-light CBR 600 RR, and its engine is outdone by the turbine-powered R6 and the surprising 675 Daytona. But it can count on its excellent front end... It remains to be seen which is your best judge: a lap time or a crush?
