presentation of the Versys-X 300 2019

The Versys concept takes on a new dimension with this small-displacement model. The first Versys, launched in 2007 at 650 cm3, took Kawasaki into the crossover segment. Subsequently, the 1000 entered the Trail-GT segment. The latest model has now entered a territory where it was least expected. In the 250 / 300 cm3 segment, where small roadsters and sportbikes(Z 300, Ninja 300, R3, MT-03, Duke 390, RC 390, etc.....) are struggling to make inroads

kawa offers a taste of adventure, trail and road with this Versys-X 300. Slim and light, the silhouette matches the displacement and doesn't try to deceive the eye. But that doesn't stop it from having a certain aplomb and an adventurous spirit. The bike doesn't inspire Dakar; it smells of the countryside. And to get there with detour, the Versys-X relies on the twin-cylinder already known on the small Z and Ninja.
This engine won't balk at the task. With 296 cm3, dual-throttle injection, double ACT, 8 valves and liquid cooling, it offers all the technology you'd expect from a modern engine. On the airbox and intake side, engineers have optimized flow to boost torque. Power output remains true to pedigree, with 40 hp and 2.6 mkg of torque. Good enough for the city and a few short jaunts in the woods; too little for a real trip. But if you want to go far afield, you'll naturally opt for bigger engines.

instinctively, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 seems ready to face the elements. The trio of fairing sides, fork head and windscreen provide excellent protection. The riding position promises to be very relaxed, while a few details show that the manufacturer has worked hard on the subject. The little Versys comes with spoked wheels (style and function), a package holder, a low-set exhaust to make room for small suitcases (optional) and 17 liters of fuel in the tank. With the twin's light appetite, we're expecting big steps before refueling.
In the company of steel tubes to support the package carrier, and its eventual load, the passenger will have something to hold on to firmly. Not very aesthetic, but functional.
The 300 Versys makes up for it elsewhere in terms of styling. With a small engine cowl, more for presentation than efficiency, and a handsome dashboard worthy of a higher category. The tachometer, with its clutch, is in the best position. The LCD display wouldn't look out of place on a 650 or even a 1000. It shows gear engaged, speed and a host of other data: trips, clock, engine and outside temperature, fuel gauge, average fuel consumption, remaining range and eco driving indicator.

Kawasaki Versys-X 300 2019

For its new Versys, Kawa has designed a new steel frame. The engine is anchored in the frame to contribute to its rigidity. Designed to be slim at rider level, it allows the rider to feel at ease, especially when putting his foot down. The rear section is reinforced to withstand off-road excursions. In fact, can this 300 ride off-road? Like all crossovers, the range is limited. But its spoked wheels fitted with mixed tires will allow a few incursions. With 19 inches at the front and 17 at the rear, the dimensions are not off-road but compromise.
Around this frame, we find a 41 mm fork, a Uni-Trak monoshock, a 290 mm disc with double-piston caliper at the front, a 220 mm disc at the rear with single-piston caliper, and ABS to supervise tricky situations. Note that the discs are petal-shaped; styling enthusiasts will appreciate this.

ergonomics are one of the manufacturer's main concerns. Riding position, large handlebars, good leverage, a good-sized seat and a narrow center of gravity are all part of the package. Too bad you can't adjust the brake and clutch levers. The Versys-X 300 compensates with an "Assist & Slipper" clutch, for smoother control and an anti-dribble effect during hard downshifts.

to enter the Versys family, you can now start with a small-displacement bike, more affordable and with decent performance. You'll be tempted to go everywhere without demanding the raids promised by the premium class. To complete the Versys-X 300's credentials, the accessories catalog includes handguards, a pair of panniers, a center stand, additional lights, a 12V socket and a few other goodies.

Versys-X 300 vs Z400
French Alain97133 Model 2020
Hi everyone!
At 75 years old, 1m70/65 kg, I ride every day a gromono Yamaha MT03/660cc from 2010 (192 Kg TPF). I'm already thinking that if I'm still in shape at 80, I'll switch to a slightly lighter bike. I've chosen for comparison the "new" 320cc Yamaha MT03 (168Kg TPF), the BMW G310R (164 Kg TPF), the Kawa Z400 (168Kg TPF), and the Kawa VERSYS-X 300 (175 Kg TPF)!
Thanks if anyone can explain why the Kawa 300 weighs more than the Kawa 400???
PS1: I'm not even talking about seat height, 845mm for the Versys vs 785mm for the Z400!!!!
PS2: Finally, testers always talk about "beginner" bikes & forget about "finisher" bikes for whom I find them quite well suited!!!!
Thanks & ride cool :)

Hi Alain, If you get a chance to read me, you should know that trails are generally heavier for the same displacement and motorization, for the simple reason that the travel is greater, the circles are bigger and so are the tires. The handlebars are bigger, etc. Today you have the new KLE, which will be out soon, but I don't think it's much lighter than the old one Rating : 5/5
Remplacente de ma 500kle
French Willys Model 2018
Very good bike , this one replaces my 500 kle , the 300 versys is a bit taller and less comfortable , but it's much more modern , and better meets today's standards . The gear indicator is very useful for finding the neutral position, as we often stop at a red light in 3rd gear thinking we're in 2nd. Ideally, we should put a tooth back in the gearbox output sprocket. In terms of saddle comfort, I don't find it unpleasant. In conclusion, a good bike to replace the 500 kle Rating : 5/5
Trop juste pour un voyage??
Once again, the tests break down the image of small-displacement motorcycles. Just look at the videos on YouTube and you'll see that, on the contrary, these bikes have everything you need for traveling: lightness, autonomy, reliability .... Rating : 5/5

A top motorcycle!

a nice bike, but expensive for a small engine. Rating : 3/5
