dakar dream? It's impossible not to think about it once you're behind the wheel of a KTM Adventure. Particularly the S version (30 mm higher ground clearance and Dakar deco) irresistibly evokes the dunes and the scent of hot sand. The most important aspect of this evolution of the Adventure is not this pretty trekking suit, but the adoption of the Superduke 's twin: the 990 cm3. Downsized to 98 hp to better suit big-bike trail riding, it allows the Katoche of the open road to switch to fuel injection and add a little more torque. New seat, new turn signals, optional ABS - these are just a few of the little extras that will bring the Adventure little by little closer to the queen of the segment, the BMW R 1200 GS.

test ride :

set at a good cruising speed, the Adventure does as well as the other segment tenors: excellent protection, a much more comfortable seat than the old softwood, a raised torso, a pleasant stance and satisfactory range - the KTM has grand touring values.

KTM 990 ADVENTUREAnd then there's always the end of the road... or rather, the change of scenery. To discover magical places, you often have to take the beaten track or the back road. That's where the big modern trails form 2 teams. The Varadero, Caponord, V-Strom, 1200 GS (to name but a few) express themselves in unison: "Well, we're going to continue on asphalt because... That is... Well, there you go...". Clearly, they're super-strong (sometimes more so) like the KTM on the big ribbons; but as soon as the going gets rocky and adventurous, only the Austrian sets out to conquer the tracks. OK, it's green. So we put ourselves in the TT position, raise our heads (and everything else, too) and set off like the GR 20. Even if the Adventure can't match the lightness of a 450, it lives up to its trail name and performs very well on unsealed roads. The big, smooth, progressive V2 ensures that you don't get a tome when re-accelerating on this tricky terrain. If you really insist on playing, don't forget that there are over 200 kgs to make up for if things go wrong...
2 quintals is relative. At standstill, it feels like it's doing more; on the move, with its thin tires, center-of-gravity layout and engine behavior, the bike feels like it's doing less. Agility quickly becomes apparent, and the Austrian twin knows how to make itself appreciated. At mid-range, the 990 offers more than the old 950, even though its values on paper are virtually the same. In use, this V2 is a real joy, smooth, powerful, easy, available and never vibrating.
What's not to like about the 990? Perhaps the price is a little high, there's no fuel gauge, little space under the seat and a seat height that might put some people off (especially the S version: 89.5 cm). As far as versatility is concerned, this is surely the only big trail that will let you ride at a good pace on the long Corsican national highway from Solenzara to the Agriates desert.

Here I am again, bought at the end of May 2006, here I am at 22,000 km of happiness, small starter noise problem, replaced under warranty during a service, clutch receiver failure at 16.000, apart from that, nothing, nada, oil consumption 80cc since purchase, make sure you level up and don't use too much ;), oil consumption decreases as you run in around 8-10,000 km, fuel consumption 5.3L to 6.2L depending on route, duo, excellent, perfect protection up to +- 180 kmh (size 180 cm) it's a passion purchase that I don't regret at all ;))))) Rating : 5/5

I rented a car (punto) ktm doesn't even want to reimburse the rental!

After 6,500 km on the SUPERDUKE and 6,500 km on the ADVENTURE, I've never had a single reliability problem with my KTOCHES.I prefer the ADVENTURE to the SUPERDUKE, with the same thrilling engine, a safer and more comfortable chassis, fabulous ABS and extra safety in an emergency.for the 7,000 revision, I'm going to buy the AKRAPOVIC pots. only complaint: the accelerator is hard to adjust at low speed and lacks flexibility before 3000 rpm. for the rest, everything is great and of high quality on this bike (I tried the tiger 1050, total lack of rigor in the chassis and suspension.... and no quality parts such as RENTHAL, WP....) 990 adventure...I've had it for 2 months now, so I'd say 12/20 as a grade...there are a lot of unpleasant little details: under the fairing, the insulators come unstuck...scraper died after 800km, 3 weeks to get the part...when it's hot, you burn your right foot with the exhaust...very average protection at over 140km/h....i've only had trails: honda yam bmw gagiva for me the top was the 900 elephant frankly on the 990 very good engine for sure but I fear on reliability given the finish ...

I've been the proud owner of a 990 adventure for 1 month now, the only problem I'm experiencing is a slightly high idle, is it normal for the idle to be so high? a good 1500 rpm so when I shift into 1st gear it slams a bit.merci.je ne regrette pas du tout cet achat car g deja eu une africa twin et un super tenere et y pas photo.c'est un rail, et 98 ch c'est vraiment appreciable sur un trail. Very happy owner of an Adventure 950, I recently tried the 990. Unfortunately, I'm a little disappointed. Injection takes away from the 950's rounded character, and although the climbs are more straightforward, I think it will be more difficult on a TT. But then, anti-pol standards are unavoidable, so so be it. What bothers me is the MANDATORY ABS, which is apparently a request from the Teutons, who want to get on board with the Ktoche without forgetting the GS. KTM should be careful not to drift... in 2 years' time, we shouldn't end up with a 19" wheel at the front. Rating : 5/5
Having ridden a Japanese mono for a few years, I eventually tired of it and was drawn to the 990. After consulting the various sites that talk about it, it always seemed more obvious to me to become one of the lucky buyers. I hesitated between several motorcycles in this category, and it's true that price is also a major factor holding you back. But if you also intend to ride off-road, this bike will take you much further than others
I was also lucky enough to benefit from a super-attractive price. KTMs are cheaper in Eastern Europe. No forest road is off-limits, and you should always have a full tank before setting off, because you never know where you might end up. Road speed is still manageable, within reasonable limits of course, as long as the road is in good condition
I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this beautiful bike in May, and I'm off to the tarmac and the big green.

Hello everyone

I tried the 1200 GS... bof bof too civilized ,the tiger yes but... it's not really a trail bike and the 990 ADV convinced me ,to the point of signing for it ,everything seduced me ,engine character ,comfort ,suspension ,chasis ,brake... it really stands out from the crowd ,to try it is to approve it

I've been riding a KTM SUPERDUKE since 06/2005 and I can tell you that the 1st overhaul of the 1000s is free (except oil and filter) (dealership in Le Cannet 06 (and a very nice one at that)) - I ordered the ADVENTURE 990 to replace the SD (I wanted more comfort and to be able to fit a topcase) - I made up my mind after trying the BMW 1200 GS which seemed like a calf to me compared to the KTM - I'm looking forward to it! I just think it's a shame that you have to pay for expensive maintenance (+- 350 EUR) already after 1000 Km
This should be included in the price of the bike, and should certainly be factored into your budget.
