presentation of the 990 Adventure 2008
dakar dream? It's impossible not to think about it once you're behind the wheel of a KTM Adventure. Particularly the S version (30 mm higher ground clearance and Dakar deco) irresistibly evokes the dunes and the scent of hot sand. The most important aspect of this evolution of the Adventure is not this pretty trekking suit, but the adoption of the Superduke 's twin: the 990 cm3. Downsized to 98 hp to better suit big-bike trail riding, it allows the Katoche of the open road to switch to fuel injection and add a little more torque. New seat, new turn signals, optional ABS - these are just a few of the little extras that will bring the Adventure little by little closer to the queen of the segment, the BMW R 1200 GS.
test ride :
set at a good cruising speed, the Adventure does as well as the other segment tenors: excellent protection, a much more comfortable seat than the old softwood, a raised torso, a pleasant stance and satisfactory range - the KTM has grand touring values.

2 quintals is relative. At standstill, it feels like it's doing more; on the move, with its thin tires, center-of-gravity layout and engine behavior, the bike feels like it's doing less. Agility quickly becomes apparent, and the Austrian twin knows how to make itself appreciated. At mid-range, the 990 offers more than the old 950, even though its values on paper are virtually the same. In use, this V2 is a real joy, smooth, powerful, easy, available and never vibrating.
What's not to like about the 990? Perhaps the price is a little high, there's no fuel gauge, little space under the seat and a seat height that might put some people off (especially the S version: 89.5 cm). As far as versatility is concerned, this is surely the only big trail that will let you ride at a good pace on the long Corsican national highway from Solenzara to the Agriates desert.

On the other hand you're lucky! my bike had to be serviced on a Friday afternoon at 6000km today it's eating a lot of oil ...everything's getting better! and what about ktm this summer I broke my 3rd starter in ibiza no parts before 3 weeks! I rented a car (punto) ktm doesn't even want to reimburse the rental!
sure they'll win the dakar ..normal they're alone then 60 ktm at the start how many at the finish??? mdr good for a nice price it's a vs !!!
Mais si vs en doit acheter une allé plustot investir dans un pédalo !
TROP DECU !!!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to NiKiTa34
990 adventure...I've had it for 2 months now, so I'd say 12/20 as a grade...there are a lot of unpleasant little details: under the fairing, the insulators come unstuck...scraper died after 800km, 3 weeks to get the part...when it's hot, you burn your right foot with the exhaust...very average protection at over 140km/h....i've only had trails: honda yam bmw gagiva for me the top was the 900 elephant frankly on the 990 very good engine for sure but I fear on reliability given the finish ... I was also lucky enough to benefit from a super-attractive price. KTMs are cheaper in Eastern Europe. No forest road is off-limits, and you should always have a full tank before setting off, because you never know where you might end up. Road speed is still manageable, within reasonable limits of course, as long as the road is in good condition
I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this beautiful bike in May, and I'm off to the tarmac and the big green. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Dom
I tried the 1200 GS... bof bof too civilized ,the tiger yes but... it's not really a trail bike and the 990 ADV convinced me ,to the point of signing for it ,everything seduced me ,engine character ,comfort ,suspension ,chasis ,brake... it really stands out from the crowd ,to try it is to approve it Rating : 5/5 Respond to Ericlebelg
