presentation of the 125 SX 2013
the KTM 125 SX has been a springboard to a pro career for many motivated young riders. That's not likely to change with the new fairing and much-improved suspension. Powered by a powerful 2-stroke engine with exhaust valve control and 6-speed gearbox, the lightest bike in its class has been at the top of the rankings for years.
airbox
The new airbox design ensures optimum protection of the filter from dirt, and maximum airflow for enhanced performance. The new airbox covers are manufactured using a two-component process, with new "Inmould" graphics. The left-hand cover is now even more securely fastened and easier to mount. This makes replacement of the Twin-Air filter even easier, taking just a few seconds. And of course, no tools are required - a unique feature in the motocross world. What's more, an additional tab allows the cover to be secured with an optional screw.
frame
The frame's modern design in lightweight, high-strength chromium-molybdenum profiled tubing ensures the perfect blend of longitudinal and torsional rigidity. This not only ensures good handling and precise steering, but also excellent ride stability. Optimization also focused on the engine-head mountings and their connection to the frame. The frames of this 2013 model year have been given a new color and remain a benchmark in terms of weight and stability.
shock absorber
The WP Monoshock shock absorber has been further improved for the 2013 KTM 125 SX and, together with the KTM steering system, is now distinguished by a completely reworked design for even greater comfort.the result is optimized damping, improved traction and even greater reserves against shocks. Of course, the rebound/compression damping (High and Low speed) can be adjusted in a jiffy to suit the rider and the track.
redesigned swingarm
The cast aluminum swingarm has been designed using state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software; the design and wall thickness ensure minimum weight for optimum strength and sufficient flex. For the 2013 models, engineers have modified the design of the rear swingarm to allow a more robust rear wheel axle (25 mm (0.98 in) instead of 20 m (66 ft)) for improved handling. A weight reduction of over 100 g (3.53 oz) has also been achieved by modifying the steering pins, cups and nuts.
improved fork
The 48 mm (1.89 in) inverted fork with closed cartridge has been further improved, with fully optimized adjustment and a new oil specification for perfect harmonization with the new frames and engines. The new oil is much more resistant to wear, and guarantees more consistent damping over both the stroke and life cycle. The new lower fork crown is 80 grams lighter, and like the upper fork crown, has been CNC-milled from high-quality aluminum to significantly improve the fork's damping and response characteristics.
cladding
The completely redesigned fairing makes it clear, and not just from an aesthetic point of view, that the 2013 model represents a completely new generation of SX. In particular, the ergonomics and functionality of the new plastics are designed so that the chassis and engine as a whole form a whole, down to the smallest detail, in perfect harmony with the rider. The fuel tank and deflectors have been given a new look, as have the airbox and front mudguard covers, including the plate. The front mudguard, for example, no longer has any ribs on the inside to prevent mud accumulation. This innovative structure, combined with improved attachment of the mudguard to the fork crown, increases lateral torsional strength by up to 50%.
