presentation of the 250 EXC-F 2015
For years, the 250 EXC-F has been the benchmark in the E1 World Championship, and last year it led Antoine Meo to the World Championship title. The enduro bike, completely reworked last year with a new engine and fairing, returns in 2015 with improvements that will continue to ensure its superiority.
engine
The 250 EXC-F has many components in common with the famous 350 EXC-F engine, and boasts exceptional performance, high torque from low revs thanks to a cutting-edge design and state-of-the-art fuel injection. The bike is easy to handle, agile and controllable, quickly earning the rider's trust. The Brembo hydraulic DDS clutch is easy to handle, while the electric and kick starters guarantee trouble-free starting in any situation. On the 2015 version, new oil screen seals ensure greater resistance even in extreme conditions, as well as greater durability.
crankcase
The crankshaft of the 250 EXC-F is designed for spontaneous acceleration and optimum traction, thanks to its high mass inertia. A plain bearing in the lower connecting rod, with two pressed bushes directly connected to the crankpin, improves engine longevity and extends crankshaft maintenance intervals: two benefits for the customer.
engine crankcase
The crankcase, manufactured by die-casting, benefits from considerably thinner walls than a shell-molded crankcase. The material used is an extremely robust aluminum alloy offering maximum resistance to stone-throwing and other damage.
cylinder head
The heart of the KTM EXC DOHC (double overhead camshaft) engine is its twin-cam cylinder head with ultra-light DLC rocker arms. Generously dimensioned and combined with large intake valves, the channels facilitate flow and enable unrivalled performance thanks to optimized intake flow. The camshafts have been specially developed to maximize power and torque, with a power delivery perfectly suited to enduro riding. The engine features ultra-light titanium valves and rocker arms to reduce moving masses and enable high revs.
balancer shaft
To balance the masses, the 250 EXC-F engine features a multifunction balancer shaft that simultaneously drives the timing chain and water pump.
starter
The 250 EXC-F engine combines the advantages of an electric starter with those of a kick starter. The electric starter is well protected behind the cylinder and connected to the ignition rotor freewheel via the ignition housing.
dDS clutch
For the 2015 model year, the DDS (Damped Diaphragm Steel) clutch benefits from a redesigned, lighter, one-piece bell housing, milled in one piece with the timing gear from high-strength steel. This process guarantees unrivalled reliability, and the compact, rivet-free design of the clutch housing results in a very slim motor. This design also allows the use of thinner steel plates, which also contribute to the clutch's compact dimensions. The spring washer provides additional hub damping: an invaluable advantage in terms of traction and gearbox wear. Finally, the Brembo hydraulically actuated clutch and spring washer guarantee easy, controllable progressiveness.
gearbox
The new 6-speed enduro gearbox specially developed for the 250 EXC-F features a slightly shorter gear ratio than before for 4th, 5th and 6th gears. The new gearbox stands out for its precision and ease of shifting. The secondary transmission has been adapted to the new gearbox.
engine Management System (EMS)
Keihin's Engine Management System (EMS) with electronic fuel injection and 42 mm butterflies ensures spontaneous responsiveness and maximum engine performance. A 196 W oil-cooled generator provides sufficient power for fuel injection, lighting and other consumers. A new electronic control unit (ECU) enables even faster and more secure data processing. The Map-Select-Switch available in the PowerPart catalog enables different engine characteristics to be selected via the EMS. In addition, a User-Setting-Tool, also available as an option, lets you use a laptop to access motorcycle data and modify ignition and fuel injection mapping with just a few clicks.
frame
The 250 EXC-F's modern frame design in lightweight, high-strength chromium-molybdenum steel tubing combines maximum longitudinal rigidity with optimum torsional rigidity. This provides not only good handling and precise steering, but also excellent riding stability. The new frame not only shines in its new colors, but also clearly sets new standards in terms of weight and stability. The frame of this 2015 version shines in the same orange as the KTM factory team models, making its design even more attractive. It's also easier to maintain and offers more space for the fuel tank and other components. The frame design, combined with the PDS rear shock absorber, optimally dissipates rear-wheel shocks.
swingarm
The cast aluminum swingarm has been designed using state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software; the design and wall thickness ensure minimum weight for optimum strength and a perfectly defined flex.
suspension / damping
The KTM 250 EXC-F features individual suspension tuning perfectly matched to its weight and engine. The high-quality WP suspension components have been specially designed for enduro use, ensuring maximum grip and comfort. at the rear, a PDS shock absorber with direct connection above the swingarm. A wide range of fork rebound damping settings, as well as Highspeed and Lowspeed compression damping, come as standard with KTM.
fork crowns
The fork crowns have been specially designed for enduro use, ensuring precise handling by supporting the fork flex. The rider receives precise feedback from the front wheel even on the toughest terrain, increasing safety and speed.
fairing
The fairing has been designed with ergonomics and functionality in mind, so that every detail of the bike is in perfect harmony with the rider.
air box
The ingenious design of the airbox ensures optimum protection of the air filter from dirt, and maximum air flow for enhanced performance. The airbox covers are manufactured using a two-component process, with new "Inmould" graphics. Filter replacement is quick and tool-free. Two additional tabs on the cover also allow it to be secured with screws.
handlebars
All EXC models are equipped with extremely sturdy Neken tapered handlebars made from a solid aluminum alloy. The tried-and-tested KTM system enables the handlebars (now black anodized) to be fixed in a choice of four positions. For the 2015 model year, the handguards are made from a new material that ensures greater impact resistance.
tachometer
The new MAE tachometer integrates all indicator lights into a single component (with the exception of the turn signals). The cockpit is clear and uncluttered, making all available information easy to read.
wheels
The wheels feature new Giant 7050 T6 aluminum rims, with black-coated spokes, lightweight aluminum nipples and CNC-machined hubs, guaranteeing maximum stability for minimum weight. Maxxis enduro tires specially developed for KTM offer perfect grip and excellent performance.
brakes
High-tech Brembo brakes have long been standard on KTM off-road bikes, with lightweight Wave disc brakes for optimum braking performance. Best-in-class enduro brakes, they remain unchanged on this 2015 version...
