presentation of the 1090 Adventure R 2019
The famous orange frame! This is the off-road version of the Adventure 1090. To turn this road trail bike into a true off-road machine, we first had to modify the suspension. And that's exactly what KTM has done with this version, which features increased suspension travel (220 mm). At the front, the 48mm-diameter WP inverted fork is equipped with stiffer springs. At the rear, a DPS shock absorber takes care of pumping with WP progressive suspension. The shoes are fitted with spiked tires (Continental TKC80 Twinduro), including a 21" spoke wheel at the front and 18" spokes and diameter at the rear.
To stop the machine, you can rely on the Bosch 9M+ ABS. This has the particularity of having a mode enabling the rear wheel to be locked while retaining the ABS at the front. Very useful off-road to control rear wheel slippage. This electronic aid will team up with a four-way traction control. All settings can be selected via an LCD screen.
In terms of comfort, the handlebars, footrests, levers and windscreen are all adjustable. The windscreen is shortened for greater visual comfort in poor conditions. The engine, sufficiently powerful and far less intimidating than the 1290, develops 125 hp and 109 Nm of torque. Enough to be optimistic with the throttle. But in the event of too pronounced a skew or recalcitrant obstacles, a set of crash-bars is there to save the day.
A very pretty version, then, for those who prefer their 1090 to ride on paths rather than urban tarmac.

In short, KTM may be a real pleasure to ride, but the image of its after-sales service is definitely ruined as far as I'm concerned, all the more so as this bike was my second KTM (the first, a 990 Adventure, whose innumerable starting problems were never solved, was stolen from me at 15,000 km), and I was expecting at the very least a commercial gesture, like taking charge of the labour. Instead of the 1290 R I was planning to buy next year, I'll be getting an Africa Twin. I know, it's a lot less fun, but at least I'm riding with peace of mind. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Jacko
I own a 2017 model, bought new in June 2018. A little over 10,000 kilometers on the odometer, rolled up in all weathers (extreme cold or extreme heat), but always with immense happiness. I've never had the slightest problem, apart from the occasional recalcitrant start-up, which was quickly resolved by holding the throttle open half a centimetre during the start-up
The gearbox is a kind of... pot of butter, whose smoothness is matched only by its precision
As for the "hyper-fragile" plastic trim, it's always impeccable and will prove far more resistant and less expensive to replace in the event of a fall than painted sheet metal
In short, a phenomenal motorcycle whose top-quality components, exemplary finish and, above all, remarkable character, will make you forever forget all its Japanese rivals... and all the bad ones. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
