from 1999 to 2026Road Glide - an unusual road frontage
the birth of the Harley-Davidson came in the 1998 model year, when the company wanted to launch a road model with high protection and new riding dynamics - the fork head is not anchored to the steering like the Electra Glide, but to the chassis. The Road Glide can thus be seen as the descendant of the Tour Glide of the 80s.
It began its career with the 1340 engine, but quickly adopted the 1450 cm3 Twin Cam 88 until 2004. Then it was time to cross the desert. It was out of the catalog for more than 10 years, with only a CVO appearance in early 2010.
2015 sees the return of the Road Glide, in a version known as Special. The 103 version of the Twin Cam, with 1690 cm3 and an extra 3 mkg thanks to its displacement and High Output optimization, is now directly available. It also gets a redesigned Shark Nose, an improved chassis and top-notch multimedia equipment.
2017 brings the Milwaukee Eight engine, destined for a long and bright future with Harley. Initially 1746 cm3 in displacement, with a 1 mkg bonus before offering two options in 2019: Road Glide in 107 ci or Road Glide Special in 114 ci. The following year, the Road Glide disappeared again, as the Special, Ultra and CVO models became more popular. The Road Glide Special continued on its way, but in 2024, everything changed. A new, very modern fork head (initiated by the CVO in 2023) gave it a real boost. Not to mention a 117 ci / 1923 cm3 M8 engine with over 100 hp and close to 18 mkg. An impressive Skyline Multimedia package completes the comeback (again) of this road devourer.
