presentation of the 1200 X-Cape 2025
With the 1200 X-Cape, Moto-Morini endorses 3 missions in one: the catalog offers a maxi-trailer in an attempt to capture a share of this juicy market / the 650 X-Cape has a big sister / and the Sino-Italian manufacturer finally offers a descendant to the 1200 Gran Passo.
The tall, muscular silhouette is unsurprisingly based on that of the 650, with rounder, fuller angles, a wide engine block, a more striking look and a full belly. The bike clearly shows its 1200 size, coupled with a very significant road profile. Unlike the Gran Passo, which was intended to be light and sporty, the big X-Cape is committed to long-distance touring. The suspension travel (170 mm / 160 mm) is only slightly greater than that of a roadster, the seat is comfortable (advertised, not verified) and the profile of the Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires is unmistakable.
To achieve this, Morini brought its big Bialbero twin out of the closet and gave it a good update, so that it could quietly pass Euro5+ standards. Now called the Corsa Corta EVO, this 1187 cm3 block develops 125 hp - a reasonable amount of power, but with generous torque (+ or - 12 mkg? ) for effortless, typically Italian acceleration. So much emotion and passion from the Corsaro era.
The 1200 X-Cape also relies on its equipment to seduce. It boasts a large 7-inch TFT color display, 4 riding modes, cornering ABS (disconnectable off-road), traction control, cruise control, tire pressure sensors, shifter and radar blind spot detection.
On the chassis side, this teaser model boasts Brembo braking components and manual controls - including serious Stylema calipers, an adjustable upside-down fork, a tubular steel trellis frame and aluminum components (swingarm, rear frame, handlebars, luggage rack). As its size suggests, the X-Cape "12" will require a minimum of experience: with a height of 860 mm, a weight announced at almost 250 kilos and a good ladleful of power, this trail-GT is not really within the reach of budding adventurers.
Moto-Morini is taking its time fine-tuning its next flagship. Presented at ECIMA 2023, the 1200 X-Cape won't arrive until 2025.
