presentation of the 800 STRADALE 2015
MV-Agusta has long since established its credentials and reputation as a motorcycle with a strong character. But it's not all about slapping around the roadster clan and getting drunk in the sportbike kingdom. Many motorcyclists like to travel. While the Turismo Veloce is sure to win them over, not everyone wants a machine with the scent of a trail-GT. Varese has therefore launched the 800 Stradale, a bridge between the Brutale and the 800 Turismo Veloce. Will it be enough for a long ride with luggage, or a Hypermotard that wants to extend the weekend?
"Don't push it! Your Stradale is just a Rivale with a pair of suitcases and a bubble". What a cheap harangue. Just because MV multiplies models on its 3-cylinder platform doesn't mean they're all the same machine. Yes, the Stradale is based on the Rivale; but its range and layout are markedly different.
Take a closer look at the shapes, the effects, the function. The Stradale retains that compact, grippy stature, that need to see corners with velocity; but the facia is preoccupied with relieving the crew. And the pair of suitcases, even if they only carry a few things for an overnight stay and a picnic (don't even think of packing a helmet), are a clear indication of a posterior fit for light travel. As MV-Agusta likes to look good and stand out, it's a pleasure to discover that the luggage compartments are equipped with LED lighting. Logical, since they cover the bike's lights. When you remove the panniers, the light blocks attached to the buttocks activate automatically. Here's an amusing detail: the exhaust tips have become square, as on the Turismo Veloce. The 12-spoke rear rim resembles the Turismo Veloce, but is specific to the Stradale.
comfort is not usually a priority for MV-Agusta. Would you dream of velvet and 20 cm of foam on an F4 or Brutale? But here, the segment and the motivation require thinking about daily well-being, and in the long term that's possible. Everyone immediately grasps the importance of the bubble, which can be adjusted to 50 mm, with a 5° angle variation. You have to get a little closer to hear that the saddle is amply padded, the handlebars have been raised, the mirrors are mounted on branches, new passenger grips have been fitted and the saddle height has been lowered by around ten mm. Once you've seen the technical data sheet, you'll realize that MV has done a lot more work on the Stradale than you might expect. The Rivale's chassis has been modified and is less radical. The column angle has been opened (25.5°), the swingarm lengthened to 607 mm and the wheelbase increased by 50 mm (1460 mm).Add to this a 16-liter fuel tank, a shock absorber with 20 mm more travel (front and rear at 150 mm) and a weight barely 3 kilos heavier, and you get a machine that's a little less sporty, more usable for everyday riding with the essential MV dynamism.

The 800 Stradale also relies on specific engine electronics to appeal to travelers of striking enfilades. The spirited 798 cm3 Trepistoni receives a gentler configuration, more suited to the machine's profile. The action begins with a softened clutch and a revised gearbox for greater smoothness. A larger 2.8-liter muffler and specific injection parameters improve mid-range torque. Next, the rider has access to 4 handlebar-selectable mappings (Sport, Normal, Rain and Personal). The liveliest of these delivers 115 hp at 11,000 rpm and 8 mkg at 9,000 rpm. Since the Rivale, we've lost 10 hp and a little torque, in favor of a more on-road feel. Normal and Rain modes reduce watts to 90 hp.
The advantage of the 3 factory-programmed modes is that the MVICS 2.0 platform manages a host of power assists, the level of which is modified according to the selected mapping. For the more fussy, the 4th mode lets you fine-tune everything to your liking: throttle sensitivity (3 levels), torque curve, Hard or Soft breaker action, engine braking (2 levels), traction control (8 levels + off) and engine response (2 levels). To round off the range of driving aids, a shifter is fitted as standard, enabling the rider to upshift and downshift without touching the clutch.
As the company has worked hard on its electronics in recent years, the whims and mood swings of yesteryear are unlikely to tarnish the picture.
oops, and let's not forget the ABS. The Bosch 9M+ provides anti-lock and anti-stop functions. Sports enthusiasts will praise the possibility of disconnecting it. After all, the chassis is a confidence-booster, with a 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork and 320 mm brake tracks squeezed by Brembo 4-piston radial calipers. The rear is equipped with a 220 mm disc and 2-piston caliper.
a true sport-tourer, this 800 Stradale features all the MV-Agusta genetics. As with all MV-Agusta machines, the styling is particularly meticulous. From the raptor's beak to the single-armed frame, with its curves and ribs, the bike is true to the brand's image: beautiful and racy. Enough to make you forget the meager volume of the fabric suitcases. 10 liters of cargo, no more. The Stradale is MV's tourist visa, not yet its passport.
