presentation of the 821 Hyperstrada 2015

since its launch, the Hypermotard has been appreciated for its delirious side, its fearsome efficiency between the laces and its sporty side, so well suited to Italian production. The 1100 and 796 have gone by the wayside: the 821 takes over with more watts and technology, and loses a little of its generous torque. It takes advantage of this to take on a wider range of uses. Why have fun on weekends when you can have fun almost every day, with the added benefit of medium-haul virons? Cric-crac, we put our brainpower to work, lock up a Hypermotard and a backpacker in the workshop, let it warm up, and when we open the pressure cooker, we get the Hyperstrada.

looks like a Hypermot' with suitcases!?! Is that all? Not just that, and even a little more. By becoming a Strada, the machine allows itself a few accommodations. It's all about being fun to ride every day, or do a few 3-figure mileage runs. There's the little windscreen, which enlarges the forehead and protects the chest. We won't be asking for GT protection, but it's enough to relieve the chest and a little pressure on the neck.
On the saddle, the changes are more than noticeable. A supermoto is high! And the Ducati is no exception to the rule. The Hyperstrada does it better: suspension travel is reduced by 20 mm, and seat height by the same amount. The result is a seat height of 850 mm. Too high? A low saddle is available as an accessory, which reduces this value by a further 20 mm. Alternatively, you can order a Hyperstrada "low version" at 830 mm, with shorter suspension and kickstands, fit the low saddle and you're back at 810 mm.

you can play with height, OK. But that's not all. The seat is wider, thicker and more comfortable, but leaves less freedom of movement than on the Hypermotard. This doesn't prevent the Hypermotard from retaining a specific riding position, less radical but still invitingly forward, as if riding with the forks. Great for attack and feel; more confusing for touring.
It's not just the seat that changes. The bridges are 20 mm higher, the mudguards are more enveloping, and passenger handgrips are provided. What's more, the 25-liter panniers can accommodate a full-face helmet. Cool. Ah, but they're made of fabric... and they close with a zip... So they're likely to get waterlogged, you'll need a padlock, and they'll definitely add to the bike's sylph-like silhouette.
On the practical side, the Bologna factory has provided a center stand and two 12V sockets.

tourism for the Hyperstrada? Yes, but more sport-tourism than GT. A Ducati, it bubbles. And the combination of a trellis frame, a bubbly twin, a dry weight of 184 kilos and an Italian character immediately makes for an itchy right hand and a wagging tongue. The engine is identical to theHypermotard and Hypermotard SP. An 821 cm3, liquid-cooled, 8-valve Testastretta with 11° crossover (for greater flexibility and availability), oil-immersed anti-drible clutch, 110 hp at 9,250 rpm and maximum torque of 9.1 mkg at 7,750 rpm. However, Ducati doesn't let it run wild. The Safety Pack keeps a watchful eye on the electronics. In the box (loaded with silicon and software), 3 driving modes, 8-level traction control and 3-level Bosch 9MP ABS.

technically, the Hyperstrada is modelled on theHypermotard. Tubular steel trellis frame continued by an aluminum frame, 43-mm Kayaba upside-down forks with 150 mm travel (170 mm on the HM), Sachs monoshock with 150 mm stroke and alu monobracket.aluminum monobars, two 320 mm front brake discs with Brembo M4-32 4-piston calipers, 1 245 mm disc with twin-piston caliper at rear. In addition to the touring equipment, the Hyperstrada features a slightly shorter wheelbase by 10 mm (1490), 6 kilos more for a total weight of 204 units and Pirelli Skorpion Trail tires. The essentials of a sporty toy are there; the desire for touring will make it possible to extend this to everyday use. With the Ducati philosophy of course, closer to sneakers than moccasins.

riding modes :

- Sport: delivers 110 hp, with "High" RbW for maximum throttle sensitivity and reduced traction control.

- Touring: 110 hp, with "Medium" RbW, more intrusive traction control and Level 2 ABS for the most stable braking possible, which also prevents rear wheel lift.

- Urban: 75 hp, with "Low" RbW, more intrusive DTC and Level 2 ABS for the most stable braking possible, also set to prevent rear wheel lift.

Moto incroyable
French Model 2015
After almost 60,000km on an xte600 supermotard, I decided to go for this hyperstrada 821, which has always been a favourite of mine. After 10,000km, I still love this bike, but the cost of maintenance (annual, desmo) may put some people off. If the recall has been carried out and the maintenance up to date, it's a reliable bike. Rating : 5/5
Que du bonheur
French Model 2015
I've had this hyperstrada 821 for a few months now and have covered less than 1,000 kilometers with it, but I'm under its spell.
After an M750, an SS1000ie, a 749 and an S4, I think I've found a good compromise between comfort and adventure on winding roads. Light, easy to handle, peppy, playful.
And what's more, it's suitable for two-up riding.
I think it would be perfect with a bit more engine space.
And a gear indicator wouldn't have been a luxury, Mr Ducati...
