presentation of the 750 GSX-R 2001
so why are manufacturers abandoning the premier class? Simple, and terrible for the 750s. The 600s are spitting out more and more horsepower (120 for the R6), and the 1000s are becoming as light as ballerinas (170 kgs for the 900 CBR). Suzuki doesn't care. The creator of the GSX-R myth, the 7 & 1/2 has been thoroughly redesigned to shake things up. stage 1: diet. The bike is 13 kg lighter - 8 kg on the chassis, 5 kg on the engine. The engineers put their brains to the test. Lighter parts, new injection, increased compression ratio and... 141 hp output! A fabulous herd of horses to propel a machine that has become lighter than an R6 (the slimmest of the 600s). Thanks to the injection, the boiler is really full in the low and mid-range for a motorization of this displacement. After that, the power is magnificent, and the sound is insane right up to the ignition switch. The controls, like the gearbox, are delightful. A great deal of work has also gone into agility. The rear tire drops to 180 and the chassis has been shortened to bring the engine forward. Wheelbase and swingarm have been lengthened to enhance stability. The larger fork gains in travel, and the shock absorber and brakes have been lightened (as have all the bike's components, in fact). As a result, the GSX-R 750 has become the tool for all those who want to make a mess of things on the racetrack. It has twice won the Masterbike organized by the European press. And what's even more astonishing is that it's not as exclusive on the road as you might think. Comfort and protection are on a par with a certain Kawa ZX-6R. The only real flaw (in the Suzuki family) is the (very powerful) brakes, which lack bite.
