presentation of the GSX-R 1000 R 100th Anniversary (Japon) 2020
Like other events, the 2020 MotoGP season awaits the end of the virological blast. But the GSX-R 1000 R is warming up the spirits in its own way, so that the aura of competition can warm up the fairings.
Here, the hypersport has updated its GSX-RR-inspired dress. A marriage of light gray and azure, tempered with a certain restraint to gently flicker toward elegance. Not sober, but not far off.
The deco pays homage to the Suzuki RT67, a motorcycle that saw a certain Barry Sheene (among others) on its lap. In doing so, the world championship team is making a big nod to Suzuki's early days in competition. That was in 1960, at the Tourist Trophy.
The presence of Ecstar is in the spotlight. Not AKrapovic, either as a sticker or exhaust system. In fact, the technical, engine and electronic components are identical to those of the standard GSX-R 1000 R. 202 horsepower, a large aluminum perimeter frame, an inverted fork with Showa BFF cartridges, an afterburner-style character and assistances at all levels (ABS cornering, traction control, launch control, Up&Down shifter, IMU, anti-stoppie, Low RPM, Easy Start, several engine maps)
This special series is also part of Suzuki's centenary celebrations. Well, almost. The Hamamatsu-based brand is honoring them this year... with some delay; the firm was born in 1909, as"Suzuki Loom Works". That's 111 years ago - so why celebrate 100 years today?!
Because it was in 1920 that the company was reorganized as the"Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co" and listed on the stock exchange following its remarkable success in weaving machines. It was also at this point that Suz began to diversify into other sectors. What followed was a long adventure, in which the motorcycle scored some glorious moments of performance.
But let's get back to this GSX-R 1000 R Ecstar 100th anniversary replica. Don't expect to find it in your garage: Suzuki had only planned to market it in Asia. But word has spread, and this color will finally be available in the US and several European countries. Perhaps it's also a way of saying "goodbye" to one of the most famous sports bikes in motorcycle history. The Gex does not pass Euro 5, and Suz has no plans to adapt it accordingly.
Note that the GSX-R 125 is also entitled to this color.
