presentation of the 749 R 2005

after the demented 999 R, Bologna now offers us its little sister seasoned with the same perfume. The 749, already a clone of the 999, has been transformed into an R to give us even more thrills. The suspension is by Öhlins, the swingarm is new and reinforced, the wheels are forged aluminum, and the engine goes through the vitamin box. As we're house-minded, we get the best of the family: the twin crankcases are made of magnesium, while titanium is used for the connecting rods and valves. Given Ducati's stifling price tag, it's highly unlikely that we'll get the chance to tickle one on the road. In any case, this machine is clearly designed for the track, as evidenced by the 2 optional engine kits available. On the menu, 122 hp in exchange for €3,100, or 137 hp (Wow!) for €6,500.
These figures will make you drool... In competition, the twin is pushed to the extreme. There's one in the Mondial Superbike class that spits out 149 hp. The legendary 748, with its 98 horsepower, is a long way off...

the stylistic redesign of the 999 also applies to the 749 R, and the mill benefits from the extra watts. 3 extra horses, an ounce of torque, and above all 9 kg less to tow. Between its technology, its stifling price tag and its offbeat styling, the 749 R is truly a sporty machine in a class of its own, as tempting as it is daring.
