presentation of the 696 MONSTER 2013

the latest modifications to the little Monster date back to 2011. Nothing exceptional, just a few refinements to enhance the riding experience. First of all, the rider's riding position has been significantly raised, thanks to handlebars that are 20 mm higher. The saddle has been reworked, with more slenderness around the fuel tank. A new rear loop accommodates discreet, hollowed-out places at wheel-arch level, serving as passenger grips. Real grips are available as an option, as is data acquisition. Last but not least, the fork is by Marzocchi, as it is now on all our monsters. Slight improvements, bordering on detail, compared to the emotion generated by the new generation Monster. Remember :

they dared! Tackling the Monster myth was as simple as trying to redesign the 916. Pierre Terblanche had tried his hand at it... But it had to happen, and Ducati is taking the plunge in a big way. After 15 years without a wrinkle, after a flurry of versions(600, 620, 695, 750, 800, 900, 1000, S2R, S4, S4R, S4RS and special seafter so much praise and so many rants, the Monster is passing the torch to a new generation.

of course, it was eagerly awaited. For a while, it will be criticized for this or that. It will be hard to forgive some of its pencil strokes... and that's the lot of every motorcycle elevated to iconic status when the day comes for a makeover (the 916, the R1, the CB 500, the VFR, the Stinger, etc.). So, let's salute the audacity before we over-criticize. And whether you're for or against the change, you've got to admit that this new Monster is not lacking in looks.
Still low and stocky, it now looks like it's tucking its head into its shoulders. Its stylized headlamp gives it an MV-Agusta Brutale look, while the side exhausts under the seat remind us of the Triumph Street Triple. The gills in the fuel tank are surprising, jarring and disturbing, but they don't cause as much upheaval as the solutions adopted for the chassis.

Ducati 696 MONSTER 2013 - 1Ducati 696 MONSTER 2013 - 1

Ducati 696 Monsterpreviously, the frame was an end-to-end tubular trellis. On the 696 Monster, it's still this type of structure that dominates, with larger-diameter tubes, but, oh surprise, it ends with an aluminum casting to create the rear loop. In fact, a hybrid, like the Desmosedici GP7 frame. Like all modern roadsters, the 696 is equipped with top-sport brakes: 320 mm discs bitten by 4-piston radial calipers. And not to be outdone, the swingarm is also completely new, huge and ready to take on a whole lot of horsepower.

in fact, the 696's twin has more horsepower than ever: 9% more, or 80 hp. And for the same displacement, torque jumps an even more substantial 11% to almost 7 mkg. And yet, the internal dimensions are the same - but we're dealing with the evolution of the 695 cm3: the cylinder heads are now of the same type as those on the 1100 that equips the Multistrada and Hypermotard. Pistons and combustion chambers have evolved. Ducati has also improved heat exchange by redesigning the cooling fins. The APTC clutch has also been reintroduced, making the bike easier to handle.

even with its modernization, the Monster is still a Monster, instantly recognizable, and now equipped with the latest fashion technology. So much for the dual needle speedometer - the dashboard is a brand-new dual-window digital display unit. Classy, high-tech, stylish, but how about a sneak peek at the engine revs (although purists say a Ducati is driven by ear)?
The rear light swaps the bulb for LEDs, while the front becomes an ovalized multi-combination that's a pleasure to look at.

5 kg lighter - Ducati's roadster has been slimmed down, becoming one of the lightest in its class (if not the lightest) at 163 kg dry weight. Ergonomics have also been rethought to improve city riding. The seat has been lowered and the driving position has been redesigned to be more forward.
The transalpine manufacturer dares to evolve while preserving the Monster spirit. Radical change? Certainly not. Surprising? More than a little. Cracking? As always ;-). Back for another 15 years?
technology, modernity, safety: behind its villainous exterior, the roadster can also be considerate. It's now available with ABS, and comes in at over 9,000 euros when fitted with this assistance. On the downside, the ABS version loses 1.5 liters of fuel capacity.

French Enzooo Model 2014
A motorcycle that's just as enjoyable in A2 as in A, with a little kick in the torque ass at every throttle, which is surprising compared to other 3 or 4-cylinder roadsters. Extremely agile, even more so than a Street 675 for reference. The only downside is perhaps the wind resistance, like most roadsters... An excellent rival even at 34hp against an MT07 for A2s. Rating : 4/5
French Viarns13 Model 2012
Hello, I've now done over 15,000km in one year with this magnificent machine, the fuel consumption is incorrectly stated as I only consume 4 L / 100km, the range is 300km before the reserve lights up so with a full tank you can do between 350km and 400km with the reserve, I think. The only fault I would say about this bike is the comfort, well to be taken with a pinch of salt as it's only on the legs (after several kilometers) that you'll feel it the most.
But apart from that, this is a great bike, in terms of value, quality and price (used), it's perfect for everything. Parts are easy to find... Anyway, if you have any questions, don't hesitate pas✌️ Viarns13

I've kept my 696 for 10 years, no mechanical problems, pleasant bike and at my height (1.59m) so it's great for little ones. Only drawback: the riding position is tiring in the long run...I've just changed for a Yamaha MT09SP Rating : 3/5
French thierry7700 Model 2014
me problem since l\'achat 2 big breakdowns never solved in guarantee by two dealer of the mark the third breakdown it took fire and since ducati belgique refuses to make the guarantee because it was still under guarantee and the direction makes things drag lamentable as service after sale they want to save you time and am obliged d\'aller en they don't give a damn about customers and the dealer was impeccable in finding the fault, then they say it's his fault and the Ducati mechanics hand me back a badly repaired bike and want me to take the blame.thierry Rating : 1/5
Moto polyvalente top nouveau motard
French monstermunch696 Model 2014
Very good bike for beginners as it can be clamped for young A2 licence holders, after unclamping with a few accessories it's not bad at all in terms of power, as powerful as a monster 900 ie ... good chassis too. Rating : 5/5
Bof
French dala14 Model 2009
Line too futuristic, lacks simplicity, "beaufisant" look Rating : 1/5
happy owner of this beauty for over a year and 15000km on the odometer
8l fuel consumption? but you're still in 1st gear?
4.8L/100 when cruising on freeways between 140 and 180, on ALL roads!!!!
otherwise 5.5 in town and barely 7 on the highway
cycle part a delight, better with sinter pads for front feeling, shock absorber slightly soft for my taste, needs to be hardened in preload, torquey engine, ac character, which accepts to pick up around 3000, not much below
Rating : 5/5
French street Model 2010
good bike, but the street is far superior in every way; especially in performance Rating : 5/5
French kristof Model 2010
This is my 1st bike, bought second-hand, and it's easy to ride even with a forward riding position. I use it every day to go to work, but beware: the city is not its playground
The finish is excellent, the dashboard easy to read and full of information, except for the fuel gauge..
In short, a great toy for egotists, the duo on long journeys is illusory
Rating : 5/5
French benj Model 2010
Great bike for beginners! For me, as for many others, a 14 sprocket is almost compulsory..
Very easy to handle, quite comfortable, nice engine, but you quickly reach its limit.
