presentation of the 999 2005

The spearhead of the Bolognese factory undergoes its first mutation, 2 years after its shock appearance. A transformation that had already begun with the 999 R model year 2005. The standard version follows suit.

In fact, there's plenty to go wrong. Aside from the conventional brake calipers, this 999 bears a striking resemblance to the R. It steals the R's new fork head without top gills, and its sturdy swingarm. A lighter, stiffer piece of aluminum taken straight from the 999 Factory bikes raced in the Superbike championship. The original bubble is higher, and the fairing is made of a new material that saves more than 1 kilo over the entire cladding.

Faithful and incorruptible, the Italian is still powered by the L-twin, which jumps to 140 hp. An increase of 16 horsepower reinforced by torque now in excess of 11 mkg. The twin has been given a vitamin boost. It now outperforms that of theAprilia RSV 1000 R, its neighboring but formidable competitor.

Ducati 999 2005 - 1Ducati 999 2005 - 1

Fully adjustable, Showa suspension and fork, and Brembo brakes. No radial-mount calipers, but 4 pistons and 1 pad per piston for each caliper, plus radial master cylinders on each handlebar lever (brake and clutch).
A few kilos lighter, new Marchesini rims, a carbon exhaust cover - all the best for this superbike, which has saved itself a pleasant surprise: the price remains the same. Desire is always expensive, but it doesn't suffer from inflation.

Despite all these evolutions, the 999 is still entitled to certain criticisms, which some would put in the "authenticity" box. The gearbox is too firm, the seat lacks comfort, the suspension is as dry as it is effective... A Ducat' has to be earned, but we would have appreciated an engine with more character. It's become very powerful, but when it comes to sensationalism, we've seen better. Let's stop throwing stones - the Italian twin knows how to talk powder when you wake it up. Very lively and full to the brim at all revs, the boiler sends big watts to the rear tire DUCATI 999for greater efficiency than the previous 999. The extra power has something to do with it, but it's above all in terms of driveability that the Italian has made great strides. Driven at top speed on the racetrack, it boasts even greater stability, an ironclad chassis and superb braking. It lacks a little extension, which means you have to keep an eye on the rev counter (or know your mechanics well) to avoid being surprised by the breaker.

thanks to the higher bubble, protection has improved significantly. This is no reason to take it easy on the road: a Ducati Superbike has never accepted an ounce of road spirit. Sport, period! In addition to its enhanced efficiency, let's hope that its new head will reconcile it with Ducati fans. Although better than the 998, its singular plasticity was not well received by purists. Ducati doesn't care. The manufacturer is preparing its weapon and intends to eventually impose its hypersport in the hearts of enthusiasts.

I bought a 2005 999 with 6000 kms equipped with the complete Ducati Perf kit. Performance-wise, after 6,000 rpm, it's very, very good (with a few extra vibrations!). Below that, it's not so good. Comfort-wise, it's really not that great, especially if you're tall. Let's not even mention the useless mirrors. It's hard to make a day of it. Don't even think about two! The best part is when you stop: it's an incomparable pleasure to contemplate this work of art. A must for aesthetes. Rating : 5/5
I think I'm a "spoiled child" in that I've just received my new 2005 999S. God, it's beautiful, beautiful, so beautiful. Every morning, before going to work, I stop for five minutes in the garage... That's the 999 :o)
It's beautiful, but also terribly efficient. A real joy on the road if you like sporty driving. I think I'll be surprised once the running-in period is over. I could indeed exceed 6000t..
It's true that there are a few drawbacks: average comfort. Especially after a long day's ride... But that's normal for a sports car. Very decent protection. Except that the front mudguard is non-existent in case of rain. You'll need to budget for washing powder. Finally, it doesn't like low revs, and therefore city driving. Unless I haven't figured it all out yet. It could be
Disadvantages are part of the bike. They're quickly forgotten once you put the GAAZZ on
A good buy if you're aware of the advantages and weaknesses

This evolution of the diva is the logical response to Aprilia's upercut, we're rediscovering this plastic bike that's a pleasure to see, the 140 hp are a pleasure to ride, it's made for punching, punching hard, thank you Ducat. I love this bike, as you may have guessed Rating : 5/5
