presentation of the 939 Hyperstrada 2016
Following in the footsteps of theHypermotard, the road-going Hyperstrada is now equipped with a larger engine. Not only to offer the user more consistency, but also to quietly pass Euro4 standards. Still faithful to the concept of a peppy supermotard with some urban and "weekend outing" aptitudes, this new 939 evolves a little on the outside, but mainly in its twin.
fearless, playful, muscular, with suitcases on her hips and a big cap on her face... So many contrasts. As if the Hyperstrada didn't want to settle anywhere. In fact, its mechanics ensured that it would never get bored. To adapt to all kinds of administrative conditions without losing breath or desire, the twin-cylinder evolves with gusto. Starting out at 821cm3, it would seem that the connecting rods felt cramped. As a result, the sides have been extended by 6 mm to increase the bore to 94 mm, while the stroke remains unchanged at 67.5 mm. 6 mm may not sound like much, but it increases the twin's cubic capacity by 116 cm3. As a result, the Hyperstrada 939 boasts... 937 mm. Marketing has its reasons that technology ignores, and vice versa. The gain in power is minimal, just 3 hp. Torque benefits more, with a gain of almost 1 mkg. At present, this machine will be used to the tune of 113 hp and 10 mkg.
This engine is still under the control of three injection maps. The "Driving Modes" are factory-programmed for more or less lively behavior, and each can be fine-tuned by the user. Details :
SPORT: 110 hp with direct Ride-by-Wire response to throttle opening, reduced DTC traction control intervention and Level 1 efficiency for ABS with reduced rear lift control.
TOURING: also 110, but with more progressive RbW response, greater DTC intervention and Level 2 ABS effectiveness with maximum stability under braking and lift-up control.
URBAN: power drops to 75 hp with progressive RbW response, even greater DTC intervention and Level 2 ABS with maximum stability under braking and lift-up control.

Engine-wise, the Hyperstrada is no different from the Hypermotard 939. Design-wise, it's a copy-paste from the previous generation, with the exception of the slightly revised hand guards. It's in terms of ergonomics and riding comfort that the evolution takes place. Since the 821, the handlebars have been raised by 20 mm; suspension travel has been reduced to 130 mm front and rear. The more accessible seat height has been increased from 850 to 810 mm.
The rest is taken from theold 821, and no enthusiast will complain. On-board equipment includes a high bubble, a wider seat than on the HM, two 12V sockets, passenger grips, a center stand and a pair of semi-rigid panniers providing a total of 50 liters of luggage. These features are a clear indication of the bike's vocation, but the chassis is always on the lookout for sporty features. Tubular steel trellis frame, 43 mm inverted fork, Brembo M4.32 monobloc radial-mount brake calipers, beautifully crafted monobars and a slender design - if you disregard the heavier rear end and front cap.
more displacement but less slenderness for the Hyperstrada 939. The Ducati has put on 6 kilos of weight and has to put up with a much more massive exhaust system. Even seasoned sportsmen will forgive this, as at 187 kilos dry weight, the machine is far from an anvil. Everyday riders will find it more comfortable, more torquey, and as striking as ever in its design. And those from across the Alps will appreciate it far more than the confidentiality encountered on our shores. Admittedly, going on vacation with a street sprinter may come as a surprise. An unusual choice, but one that's galvanizing from the moment you wake up.

This engine is no exception: torquey, powerful, great sounding with its original pot.
Virile braking. Comfort is not its strong point. 200 km in one go, but no more.
