presentation of the SportClassic 1000 Sport S 2009
This Sport S is perhaps the finest interpretation of the SportClassic category. A Ducati full of charm, a café racer full of character, a motorcycle full of passion. Retro is in every corner of this bike. With a sporty spirit that's worthy of those special moments when you just want your heart to beat out of your chest.
based on the 1000 Sport, to which the manufacturer has added an old-fashioned fork head, the S reclaims the spirit of urban racing in the 70s. The name carries well, and so does the look. And the scent continues right through to the grip. With its low-slung straps, the rider is instantly imbued with the stiffness of a sporty ride. Comfort-wise, the forearms will suffer pretty quickly. But what a thrill all the while.
while the mechanics may seem old-fashioned, out of step with the considerations of a modern, furious block, they are perfectly in tune with the definition of a café-racer occupying yesterday's era. The Desmo twin, with its air-cooling and 2 valves per cylinder, fits the SportClassic S perfectly. Rated at 92 hp, it's a dry, torquey machine with a great character. While this twin-cylinder engine can be found in the Monster 1000 S2R as well as in the ex-Multistrada and SS models, its best setting is undoubtedly this Sport 1000 S.
This is a Ducati. It's built on a tubular steel trellis. A 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork holds the road firmly, while two Sachs amortos support the rear. For added style, and like all models in the SportClassic family, the Sport S is fitted with spoked wheels. No need to worry about braking, with 320 mm discs at the front and a pair of Brembo 4-piston calipers. The rear retarder features a 245 mm disc with a single-piston caliper.
a modern interpretation of a bygone era, the Sport 1000 S enriches the SportClassic range with a sporty model sprinkled with nostalgia yet sparkling with contemporary appeal. It's also a mock'Paul Smart edition' for a more affordable price. Practicality, comfort and ease of use are far from the top of the list. A Ducati sports bike has to be earned and demands commitment from its rider, and this 1000 S is no exception. And what chic!
