The Multistrada was originally designed to offer a completely different experience within the Ducati range. A UFO in the range, but today it's hard to see how the manufacturer could do without it.
The Multistrada V2 marks Ducati's entry into the family. A new name to emphasize the technical difference between the medium and large trail bikes, as is the case with the Panigale Superbikes.

This V2 isn't exactly new. You could almost say it's just a slightly refreshed 950. Design-wise, it's obvious. Apart from the trim, which now extends under the seat, there's hardly any difference between yesterday's and today's versions. This MTS doesn't even try to pick up on the V4's expressions. In a way, that's just as well: it has more personality.

If you dig a little deeper, you'll find a few elements inherited from the overpowered Multistrada. They don't change the plastic, but they will have a greater or lesser influence on the V2's performance. First, the footrests, 10 mm lower, then the mirrors, 700 gr lighter than on the 950. Then we conclude with aluminum brake flanges (-500g) and rims derived from the V4. The wheels save 1,700 grams in weight. Far from negligible.

This is one of the key points in the evolution of the "little" Multistrada: revs Multistrada: revs. It has shed 5 kilos. We've just seen part of this loss, so let's find out how the rest was lost.
The clutch alone weighs in at 1.5 kilos. The engine contributes 500g, with an overhaul of the connecting rods and gearbox. In fact, the latter has focused its efforts more on comfort than on weight. These modifications, plus an optimized Up&Down shifter (still optional), promise greater fluidity and precision.

This doesn't change the twin's main data. We'll be grateful. On the 950, this 937 cm3 block proved particularly pleasing, with power levels that are almost ideal for a machine in this segment. Its 113 hp are very much in evidence, and we've got up to almost 10 mkg of torque on hand. A far cry from the 170-hp monster that is the V4. And for Ducati tattooed fans, a few symbols are always present. It's a 90° L-twin, its timing is desmodromic, there are still steel tubes around..
The affection is understandable. I often hear tifosis unhappy at no longer hearing the scraping sound of a dry clutch.

the V2 also marks the opening up of the Multistrada family to young licence holders, as it is now available in A2 version. A welcome gesture, but.... Given the price - twice that of a CB 500 X, but with nothing to do with enjoyment - it's a very selective choice.

P....n , 2 years. A purgatory - just the opposite of the miles on board the MTS V2. Ducati has made a few changes to improve comfort. The footrests are lower (already mentioned), as is the seat, set at 83 cm (- 1 cm). The entire seat has been redesigned to offer greater freedom of movement, and the crotch has been made thinner to improve footing. Although a trail bike is still a bit high... Just in case, a little extra money and options will bring the altitude down to 79 cm.

Flute , the new Multistrada V2 has not been given permission to equip itself with a color TFT screen. This remains the privilege of the S version. But the electronic equipment remains at a high level, in keeping with Ducati doctrine. It includes 4 fully-configurable riding modes (Sport - Touring - Urban - Enduro), 8-level traction control, curve-active ABS in 3 modes, hill-start assist, Brake Light (rear light flashes if braking is BIG) and automatic turn signals.

It ' s not this that sets a Ducati apart, but its rigorously sporty chassis. With the exception of the rims, it's all taken from the 950. With a tubular aluminum trellis half-frame anchored to aluminum plates, a 48 mm Kayaba inverted fork and fully adjustable sachs shock absorber, 170 mm travel on both sides, 320 mm brake discs squeezed by 4-piston Brembo radial calipers and a 265 mm rear brake disc. A 20-liter canister provides plenty of stopping power. All this in a 222 kg wet weight.

By upgrading from the 950 to the V2, the most accessible of the Multistradas doesn't make any major changes; rather, it is refined, offers a little more comfort and cultivates its image. It leaves it to the V4 to cater for a more performance-hungry, demonstration-oriented public with a more muscular wallet.
As with the previous generation, refinement comes in the form of the S version, with its piloted suspension, more electronics, shifter, adaptive cornering lights, keyless ignition, backlit controls, etc..
