presentation of the 250 SX-F 2015
for years, the 250 SX-F has been a subscriber to the MX2 world championships, and in 2013 even took part in the prestigious AMA Supercoss Lite championship in addition to its world championship title. 2013 was an exceptional season for the 250 SX-F, worldwide and in both amateur and professional categories; the 2014 season looks to be no different. For the 2015 model year, this spirited 4-stroke features engine and chassis upgrades; a performance powerhouse that's sure to continue dominating the MX2 class.
engine Management System (EMS)
Keihin's Engine Management System (EMS), with electronic fuel injection, 44 mm throttle valves and the revolutionary injector position developed by KTM, ensures spontaneous response and maximum engine performance. The Map-Select-Switch available in the PowerPart catalog also enables various engine characteristics to be selected via the EMS. In addition, a User-Setting-Tool, also available as an option, lets you use a laptop to access motorcycle data and modify ignition and fuel injection mapping with just a few clicks.
cooling
KTM's tried-and-tested integrated cooling system guides coolant from the cylinder head through the frame triangle to the WP aluminum radiator. Fewer hoses facilitate radiator installation and improve airflow under the tank.
engine
The 250 SX-F is your best ally when it comes to podium finishes in hotly contested motocross competitions, as demonstrated by its numerous world championship titles. On the 2015 version, new oil strainer seals ensure greater resistance even under extreme conditions, as well as greater durability. The combination of compact engine design and unbeatable power once again makes the 250 SX-F a future contender for victory.
cylinder head
The heart of the compact DOHC engine is the ultra-modern cylinder head with twin overhead camshafts and DLC-coated rocker arms: a design that enables speeds of up to 14,000 rpm. Optimized flow channels and ultra-light titanium valves (32.5 mm intake, 26.5 mm exhaust) ensure maximum gas flow and top performance.
bodywork
The 250 SX?F's connecting rod assembly features a plain bearing in the lower connecting rod eye. Two pressed bearings are directly connected to the crank pin. This construction is an essential prerequisite for the very high revs and unbeatable peak performance of the 250 cm3 engine. It also benefits the engine's durability, extending the service intervals for the connecting rod: saving time and money for the customer.
balancer shaft
To balance the masses, the 250 SX-F engine features a multifunction balancer shaft that simultaneously drives the timing chain and the water pump.
starter
The 250 SX-F engine features an electric starter as standard. This represents an undisputed advantage in the heat of competitive racing, even if it means a slight increase in weight.
clutch
The highly compact CSS (Coil Spring Steel) clutch features a wear-resistant steel bell and eight highly heat-resistant lined discs made of steel. The clutch bell of the 2015 model has been redesigned and lightened. The clutch springs are made from a new material that offers more consistent behavior both in severe operating conditions and over time. Brembo's hydraulically actuated clutch ensures easy, controllable modulation.
gearbox
The lightweight 5-speed gearbox is characterized by high precision and ease of shifting, making it easy to select the right ratio in any situation.
piston
Forged pistons in Box-in-Box design boast a super-strong structure while keeping weight to a minimum. Thanks to their low moving mass, the engine is particularly dynamic.
frame
The modern frame design of SX models in lightweight, high-strength chromium-molybdenum steel tubing combines maximum longitudinal rigidity with optimum torsional rigidity. On the new SX 2015 frame, a forged and milled cross tube connects the two halves of the frame and the idler mechanism's pull rod. The absence of welds ensures extremely precise manufacturing tolerances and enhanced safety, while saving 60 grams in weight.
return mechanism / shock absorber
Revamped for the 2015 model year, the shock absorber features a new return mechanism with optimized geometry. A more linear progression with a higher starting rate ensures greater stability while lowering the rear end. What's more, this new design saves a further 40 grams. Fully adjustable, the WP 5018 shock absorber has been perfectly optimized for this new geometry.
fork tees
High-quality CNC-milled fork crowns have been part of KTM's standard equipment for many years. They ensure precise handling and clearly underline the bending characteristics and therefore the responsiveness of the telescopic fork. The new O-ring support for the lower fork head bearing, a redesigned tube and a new steering head bolt save a further 40 grams.
fork
Fully adjustable, WP Suspension's inverted fork has been perfectly matched to the rear shock absorber and the new 22 mm front axle (up from 26 mm) for the 2015 model year. The new axle provides better front-wheel feel, while also reducing weight by a further 40 grams. The new front wheel axle mountings have an offset of only 33 mm instead of 35 mm, providing greater stability with a higher caster angle. They also include new fork protectors that are 50 grams lighter.
fairing
The aim of KTM's designers was to create a more ergonomic and functional fairing, so that every detail of the bike is in perfect harmony with the rider. The plastic mouldings of the front mudguard are a model of solidity thanks to their sophisticated structure and fastening.
graphics
A new, more stylish deco kit with clear lines underlines the uncompromising demands of this modern off-road bike.
saddle
Perfectly ergonomic, the saddle features a hard-wearing foam core to ensure sufficient comfort and sturdiness.
air box
The airbox design ensures optimum protection of the air filter from dirt, and maximum air flow for enhanced performance. Changing the Twin Air filter in just a few seconds and without tools has long been standard at KTM.
fuel tank
All SX models feature a 7.5-liter fuel tank made of lightweight polyethylene. Four-stroke motocross models feature the same fuel pump system as four-stroke enduro models, allowing optional installation of larger tanks available in the PowerParts catalog or on enduro models.
handlebars
All SX models are equipped with super-strong Renthal Fatbar 827 tapered handlebars, shaped to meet motocross requirements. The tried-and-tested KTM system allows the handlebars to be fixed in a choice of four positions. The 2015 model has been fitted with softer two-component grips to protect the rider's hands.
wheels
When it comes to wheels, the 2015 version features black-coated Excel rims with lightweight CNC-machined hubs and spokes with light aluminum nipples, to ensure maximum stability for minimum weight. The new Dunlop Geomax MX 52 tires have been designed in collaboration with the KTM USA factory team and offer optimum traction and top performance. The new crowns save a further 50 grams on unsprung weight.
brakes
High-tech Brembo brakes have long been standard on KTM off-road bikes, with lightweight Wave disc brakes for optimum braking performance. Best-in-class motocross brakes, they remain unchanged on this 2015 version.
