from 1999 to 2025Yamaha R6 - The screaming track star
when Yamaha brought out the R6 in 1999, it was a veritable bomb in the Supersport category. Sleek and compact, the R6 bewitches everyone with its insane 4-cylinder: under 10,000 rpm, you've got nothing! Beyond that, the block explodes and puts you in the driver's seat.
It received a major upgrade in 2003 with the arrival of fuel injection and a die-cast aluminum chassis. 2005 sees the arrival of inverted forks and radial brake calipers.
In 2006, the styling becomes much more incisive, while the engine takes a step towards madness. 127 horsepower jostle for position, while the block claims to reach 17,500 rpm(the reality is more modest). The 600 Yam' will reach the highest output of its dynasty - 129 hp - in 2008.
The R6 will continue to evolve quietly on this basis until 2017, when its styling copies that of the R1. It will take advantage of this to add a healthy dose of electronics: traction control, shifter, ABS and 3 riding modes. This evolution will enable it to run until 2021, when it will no longer be road-approved, due to Euro5. However, Yamaha will continue to offer it for track use, in the R6 Race version, or in the GYTR version for more experienced riders with thicker wallets.
