presentation of the V6 CAFE RACER 2020
Levis is one of those English brands from the early 19th century that left its mark on the world. Born in the '10s, Levis enjoyed a successful career as a motorcycle manufacturer, with a number of major successes on the racetrack, particularly on the Isle of Man. And like many, the brand faded into obscurity - for it, at the dawn of the Second World War.
Today, a well-known name can be enough to resurrect a brand. Especially when it's built on British soil. Look at the development of Triumph and the renewed interest in brands of yesteryear: Norton, Brough Superior, Ariel, Matchless, etc... They are being reborn, raised from the grave by passionate investors. And often with a certain panache.
Here, Phil Bevan has reached out. And he wants prestige. For Levis, an expressionist concerto will herald his return.
It will be accomplished under an exceptional body. There's no question of presenting a simple, easy-to-use machine for everyone, like the CB 500 or 600 Diversion. It had to be snappy, flashy, responsive, even capable. Its roadster, christened V6 Cafe-Racer, returns from the forges of the imagination. experience this body of curves and tensions, where each part seems to want to dominate space. But let's keep a sense of perspective, as this machine is still at the prototype stage.
Perhaps the least visually spectacular element is one of the most technically interesting. Levis will be installing a V6 (hence the name) in its Café-Racer. A delectable yet sensible choice, considering that Phil Bevan had originally planned (and is still considering) a V10, the one used in the Connaught Type D GT.
This 1.2-liter engine is rated at 120 hp. The firing order of its cylinders is rather peculiar (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 instead of 1, 2, 5, 6, 4, 3), allowing it to dispense with an internal balancer shaft and offer very smooth running.
The British V6 will be available in a supercharged version for a limited edition celebrating the centenary of Levis's first Tourist Trophy victory in 1920.

The front axle impresses with its Fior parallelogram design. Even more striking, it is CNC machined from solid aluminum, as are the swingarm, controls, cylinder heads and headlight. It's clear that the company wanted to give this bike a very high level of finish and craftsmanship.
The brakes also have their say: the 305 mm discs are engraved with the brand logo, while the calipers have been specially designed for this model.
The first of the renaissance, the V6 Café Racer model will normally be followed by five other models, the Urban Roaster, the Flat Tracker, then two sporty versions. Levis is also keen to ensure a lineage of high dignity. The motorcycle announced (for 2020) will be a luxurious expression, and the price just as much. Announced for £102,000, or between €110,000 and €115,000 depending on how the bike fluctuates. Has Brough Superior found someone to talk to?

it remains a simple objet d'art, but certainly not a real motorcycle. The brand should disappear again... Rating : 1/5 Respond to DantonQ
