presentation of the 1050 SPEED TRIPLE 2008
even meaner! That's the philosophy behind the new Speed Triple. Its sulphurous reputation is about to get even bigger with this 2005 model. A version that's almost wild, but still irresistible - and so very Triumph. The Triple is a very important model for the English brand. It's both daring and strategic to re-model it... So, at Hinckley, we didn't pull any punches.
With its two round headlights and unmistakable silhouette, this wicked roadster is instantly recognizable. That gaze is soon drawn to the roadster's new rear end, very streamlined, even truncated, in an oh-so-aggressive Buell style. The new rear end is protected by 2 exhaust pipes, which look like they mean business. As for the look, the frame and swingarm are painted black, and the new 14-spoke rim is resolutely superb. At the front, everything inspires respect. In addition to its devilish good looks, the Speed proudly displays its big black anodized inverted fork, finished off with radial brake calipers - from Nissin until 2007, replaced in 2008 by Brembo monoblocs. Strong stuff to cope with the English motorcycle's fiery spirit.
The factory's famous 3-cylinder engine has been much talked about (mostly in a positive light), and it's back with a vengeance: the block is enlarged from 955 to 1,050 cm3 by increasing the stroke. This increase in displacement boosts power to 130 hp (+10), with an extra dose of torque obtained 300 rpm earlier. With more mid-range watts and an even more expressive character, the new Speed triple is sure to delight. Triumph couldn't face the future without a few small improvements, such as a new gearbox, a new clutch, 180 tires instead of 190 (which improved handling), a new dashboard.... It displays a wealth of information, with a gear indicator as a bonus. Triumph added another layer in 2008, with a number of changes to the passenger compartment, which until now had been downright spartan. A revised seat, a modified rear shell and lower footrests will significantly improve Madame's lot. A new battle is brewing on the streets between England and Italy: Speed Triple versus 1,130 TnT and S4R. The hooligans have been unleashed.
they're growling, they're snarling, they're expressing themselves... Right from the low revs. No need to wait until the middle of the rev counter, as with the 955, to hear the bewitching melody of the British 3-cylinder. A perfect match for the new 1,050 cm3's dark ardor. While it also powers the new Sprint ST, its joyful flights of fancy are far more expressive in the Speed Triple case. Exemplarily smooth, the spark plug tightens the muscle at low revs. Inflated, with lightened parts and more efficient fuel injection, it's just waiting for the right hand signal to unleash some serious oomph. What a trunk! The needle in the rev counter immediately goes into overdrive as the Speed lunges forward like a wildcat on prey. It still expresses itself with its characteristic "velvetiness", but with some serious spices in the soup. Impressive over the first 2/3 of the operating range, the mill seems more polished but still just as powerful, until the breaker comes along. More lively, more generous, more "Bbbrrroouuhhaaahhhhppp", the 3-legged is a real treat.
With this new-found enthusiasm in the cavalry, we're entitled to expect roadholding to match. And here, England has done it again. Faithful to the Daytona frame and guided by a precise, rigorous front end, the Speed Triple gains in agility, thanks in part to the narrower rear tire. The chassis handles everything, nothing moves, and the suspension does an impeccable job. Comfort has dissolved somewhat since the 955, yet the ride is more comfortable, especially in terms of efficiency. The only fly in the ointment on this character-filled roadster comes from the brakes, which aren't incisive enough... Or at least not as much as the machine's aggressiveness and impressive fork with radial calipers would suggest. Don't worry, the power is there; it's just not mean enough.
Riding it, you're in for a wild ride, a muscular sensation, and the beast within (or within you?!?). Of course, the practical side of things isn't all that great: zero protection, no storage space, machine exclusivity and an ultra-limited duo. Hey, why not get some suitcases and a car radio while you're at it? The Speed is all mouth and watts!

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 61 reviews
Well, it's a bike full of qualities:
-the engine is fantastic: round but never dull, always ready to wind up and smash your face in at the slightest twist. It pushes all the time and in any gear, so you can climb an entire hill in 3 or die in 4 like a lazy bum in a roundabout... Bluffing! While I'm still attached to the raw pleasure of biking, I'm now convinced that the best 4-cylinder on the road is... the 3-legged! (NB: going full throttle doesn't change much in the first two-thirds of the lap, but makes the last third absolutely thrilling).
- the cycle part remains in tune with today's bikes, requiring just the right amount of commitment from the rider not to get bored. Unless you're a circuit buff or live on a billiard table, I'd strongly recommend relaxing all the suspension settings by half a turn: it makes the bike much more forgiving and responsive on bumpy roads, without the loss of stiffness being too detrimental to the rest. And you don't have to work your ass off as much either.
- Speaking of comfort, I don't find the rider as hard on it as I've read. It's not a GT, but I can handle 400/500 km days without too much difficulty. I find, for example, a ducat\' monster much less conciliatory with the man on this point
So, nice qualities, but Madame also has her faults:
- the front brake is, for me, the only really big flaw. It's decent, but nothing more. The power is there, but you have to pull the lever excessively, and I never felt completely at ease with it. Apparently, this can be sorted out by Mr Triumph... not the one I know, anyway! An isolated problem, perhaps? In any case, purging the system and switching to avia durit didn't revolutionize things. Frustrating.
- raised pots (Léo GP in my case): it's all very well, it seems, but it smokes your rucksack, your clothes, your saddlebag and even your passenger, who - if she hasn't already fallen off - will end up gassed. It's a minor detail, but you'll find that it quickly becomes annoying to smell the fuel oil on your nose every time you take it out to meet friends in town or to go to work.
- maintenance is relatively expensive, much more so than equivalent japs and even a little more than a BMW 1200 I've owned. (Some dealerships approach four-figure bills for major servicing every 20,000 km!) On the other hand, reliability is top-notch, and the absence of complicated electronics means you can envisage doing most of the maintenance yourself. It's up to you, especially as you can find quite a few parts at reasonable prices on the net.
- Well, I don't know if that's a quality or a flaw, but if you like walking around, it's not. And try as you might to keep a cool head, she wins every time. A real vaccine against monotony... but with a subscription limited to 12 points.
In conclusion, this Speed is all about raw, straightforward motorcycling pleasure, an idea of the bike that contrasts pleasantly with the fashion for computers on wheels that are coming out of the stores today. Here you've got 130 unfiltered right-hand grunts, no ABS, and a chassis that just begs to be steered in case of over-optimism. In short, it's absolutely idiotic in today's safety fashion... but maybe that's why the bond with this bike quickly becomes so special and exhilarating. Give it a try! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Fussoir
Is it possible to have a 2010 model limited to 47 hp?
merci d'avance Rating : 5/5 Respond to PIERROT
Positive points
Its torquey, powerful and versatile engine
its sublime sound
Handling in town
Its timeless, magnificent badboy design and top-notch finish
Brembo brakes
Cornering stability
Reliability never a problem
Negative points
Admittedly, it does have its shortcomings, with a pronounced tendency to steer with the steering damper, which we strongly recommend. I almost got thrown off a few times...
heaviness when changing gear quickly
Crappy gearbox, some gears lock badly, and you get some pretty annoying dead stops...
Motorcycle of good man gringaler sabstenir...;)
Torque careful when downshifting ;)
We eat up a lot of rear tires ;)
3/4 of the faults I've found have been corrected with the new versions, I think the latest speed r must be simply diabolical

i am looking for the name and paint number of my white speed.
Thanks and happy holidays.

in my eyes, it's the queen of queens
Smooth, lively engine (not an engine with narrowed eyes and a narrowed character)
A rigorous chassis, but without the sacrosanct Italian exclusivity
As for comfort, it's true that this isn't a GT, but you don't get something for nothing
Finally, this is a big machine with a very reasonable maintenance budget. Rating : 5/5 Respond to barondindi
8-year-old frame....certes, the design, but it's been reinforced, and it's so beautiful and unique, imagine a Ducat' with a Deltabox frame, isn't that a crime of lèse majesté?
Batman headlight plate.....MDR !!! go to Kawa, you'll find what you're looking for. No hard feelings, but a Speed is 2 wheels, a single-arm, THE famous frame, 2 headlights that squirt you in the face and above all .......LE 3 CYLINDRES MAGIQUE !!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to StefZébuth
A brute of an engine: capable of dropping to 1,200 rpm in 6 and starting up again smoothly, and demonic if you feel like beating it! All the advantages of bi and 4 cylinders without the disadvantages. The chassis is top-notch, the only drawback being the front brakes, which lack the attack of previous models. Comfort? yeah, let's face it, we never bought a SPEED for comfort, but objectively speaking, it's not as bad as on my 2000 SPEED....I said ....less bad! The result? after more than 15,000 kilometers in one year, nothing but happiness, and then the sound... ah! I forgot, I put the Triumph "Racing" outputs!!! the injection curve that goes well, one tooth less at the gearbox output, full power, and as my friends from the Moto-Club "Les Copains d'Abord" (26) say... "OUVRE FEIGNANT!!!" and long live the arsouille on our "Ardécho-Drômoise" roads. What happiness we tell you!

Faults, yes of course, front braking giving "bad sensations"
One last thing: remember to take physio sessions, it's still very firm. Rating : 5/5 Respond to RICO

An incredible engine! The streets are getting too short all of a sudden, and the lap counter keeps climbing
I want to eat the registration card for the SV I've just bought..
The only bad point is comfort.
The pavement's imperfections are felt all the way up to your cervical vertebrae, without being bothered in the slightest by the wooden shock absorber or the seat padded with peach stones.
Why so much hate?!
Is there a gel seat option for the speed-triple?

Coming from a speed 2000 then a speed 2004 when are they going to stop because it's starting to cost me!!!!
Tomorrow I'm going to get the 2006 (noblesse oblige)
I'm impatiently waiting for the 2010 model, but what are they going to do better than impeccable?

well I fell in love
after several BANDIT S and a VFR 800 (perfect bike) i came to DUCATI (a black ST3 from july 2005) and well i was wrong....... i did a test ride of the new speed triple and well here is the bike i needed a 3 cylinder and a crazy chassis and efficient braking and it looks like a man a little regret zé that i'll stay single for a while ...........lol Rating : 5/5 Respond to dark_casim
I used to believe in the beast's originality... it's going to become standard soon !!!
What can I say except that I'm also under its spell. A 3-cylinder to combine the advantages of bi and 4 cylinders, and the disadvantages then? there are none!!!! (I'll buy padded leather pants for my girlfriend...)
And a monster face !!!
I WANT IT!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to VV
I've yet to find its only flaw

for the past 5 days, it's been a joy to drive, despite the fact that I can't use the engine all the way, due to the running-in process..

Then, as if by chance, I pass a Triumph dealer and by chance I come home
And again by chance I ask to try the speed, I take it in hand and then it's happiness, smooth engine player and it lifts by itself!
On small bends, it grips even better than the S4R
I reluctantly took it home and signed a purchase order directly
I rediscovered the 4-cylinder extension and the torque of the twin!
Thank you Triumph for making bikes with a heart! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Booba
