presentation of the Tracer 9 GT 2024
With the Tracer 9 GT, Yamaha is storming the bastion of over-equipped tourers. But it's not really a tourer. A Tracer is a mix of roadster, trail and sport-GT. Both it and its sister have been completely revamped since 2021, with virtually everything the manufacturer has to offer in the way of electronics.
New engine, new chassis, new equipment - the Tracer 9 has been even more of a party machine than the MT-09 since 2021. The 3-cylinder engine was upgraded to 889 cm3 for extra horsepower and torque. Already present in the catalog to accompany the 900 Tracer II with a high-end edge, the GT marks an even more generous difference here.
Let's start by discovering its new features, those little pleasures with high added value. First, the adaptive suspension supplied by KYB. It has become almost an obligation for a manufacturer to equip its road (or sports) models with this kind of refinement. Above all, it's a guarantee of comfort, which is what the KADS - KYB Actimatic Damper System - is all about. The system is similar to competing suspension systems, and we're still a little taken aback by this level of technology.
The on-board inertial unit analyzes the bike's dynamic data and transmits it to the on-board electronics. The IMU, HU hydraulic unit, ECU and SCU suspension control then work together to adjust damping in a micro-instant. This ensures optimum efficiency at all times. This system is more advanced than that of the FJR 1300, and is introduced on the Tracer 9 GT.
Two modes are available for the KADS action: A-1 for sporty riding, but with flexibility and responsiveness on dry roads. It also works in the wet. A-2 further softens Kayaba's 41 mm inverted fork and monoshock to soak up random road conditions.

Half new, the adoption of suitcases as standard is an essential element of any self-respecting GT. Why half? Because, on the one hand, this equipment was already available on the previous generation. On the other hand, Yamaha has fitted brand-new panniers to the Tracer 9's hips. They are large enough to accommodate a full-size bike. The mounting hole is "floating" to limit vibrations.
The other specific features of the Tracer 9 GT were already present on the 900. We're delighted to find them again. In particular, the heated grips can be set to 10 positions, a real pleasure when temperatures are in single digits. An Up&Down shifter completes the sporty side of the bike, with its powerful 3-cylinder engine now boasting 119 hp and 9.5 mkg.

The GT also uses the same chassis as the standard model, with lightened SpinForged rims, CF Deltabox frame, internally-anchored swingarm, radial master cylinder with radial piston calipers (298 mm discs), Bridg' T32 tires and lighter weight. A GT is 7 kilos heavier than a Tracer 9, but 7 less than the 900 it replaces.
The rider will also appreciate the Tracer 9's improved hospitality. An adjustable seat, footrests and handlebars, a larger bubble and handguards that finally live up to their name. With a 19-liter fuel tank, you'll have plenty of range, easy maintenance thanks to the center stand, and regular fun thanks to everything the manufacturer has put into it.
Full of technology, full of fun, full of equipment.... All of which raise the price of this bike to the level of our president's monthly net salary. The CV is unequivocal: this machine's reputation is matched only by its success. As for its stylistic turnaround... It's a way of affirming its complete renewal.
The Tracer 9 is the most roadworthy model in Yamaha's range, and now comes with a GT+ version. With radar, adaptive cruise control, 7-inch instrument panel and uni-braking.

Maintenance
Yamaha France is recalling its motorcycles equipped with the CP3 engine (2021-2025) due to a fault in the ECU settings. This problem causes the TPS sensor to malfunction, resulting in premature wear and the accumulation of abrasion particles. This can lead to unstable idling, engine stalling and the appearance of error code P2135. The solution: "Reprogram the ECU and replace the TPS sensor," says Iwata.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 9 reviews
The engine is sparkling, and there are no worries about the suspension (light weight that goes with the size). It's easy to angle, and so far it's the first bike I've kept for over a year. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Christelle
Correct protection with a high GIVI bubble...To be continued... Rating : 4/5 Respond to DNTF33
It would be nice if Yam could work with an equipment manufacturer to offer kits that could be adapted from the original or aftermarket, to provide a truly protective fairing, including for the lower legs and feet, which are the "poor cousins" of protection. And then, for those who are always on the move and need more storage space: bigger suitcases, front storage compartments (like a large pocket), because today's GT is only in name
And the luxury would be to be able to choose between chain and belt... With its scoots, Yam is used to this technology !!!
In short, it would take "almost nothing" for me to take action, but it remains essential given my daily use in all seasons. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Antonin
However, it can't be that difficult to design such a style for a manufacturer's catalog! There are customers for it! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
