presentation of the R1 1000 GYTR R24 2024
After more than 25 years of skin-deep sportiness, the R1 will soon bend the knee to the standards and will no longer be allowed to touch the road. 2024 is the last year in which it will be allowed to burn time AND do tricks on the open road. Next year, only a track version will exist. With the GYTR R24 model, Yamaha shows us a glimpse of the R1's next dimension and what it can become.
This is the 2024 version of the R1 GYTR - for Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing. A machine optimized to make riding more efficient, more enjoyable and more rewarding. The selection of racing parts means you can take the R1 out on the track straight from the dealership, and set a fast time.
Between the 2023 model and this R24, the main change is the installation of an Öhlins fork as standard. The choice of a pressurized FGR 251 fork explains the bike's significant price increase, but in exchange ensures a very high level of feel and control. The front mudguard is made of carbon, for a touch of premium and a fine weight saving.
The entire chassis is sharper, thanks to the use of Swedish gear, Bridgestone R11 tires, aviation brake hoses, GYTR calipers and brake pads. Transmission is via a 520-pitch racing chain and a 15-by-42 sprocket set. After that, there's a whole host of things to make life easier on board and in the pits: quarter-turn fuel filler cap, multi-position adjustable remote controls, special handlebars and steering stops, racing seat and bubble, GB Racing engine protectors, crown and brake lever protectors, and pit-stand brackets.
The Crossplane engine can express itself forcefully thanks to the "wicked camshafts + optimized intake cones" kit, the AIS system shutter and the Akrapovic muffler - its volume is kept at an acceptable level on track via the Track Day tube. The result is much more than the original 200 hp. To make the most of every phase of riding, the electronics are reinforced by a GYTR ECU harness and box. A Windows interface cable is also supplied, as is an emulator for short-circuiting the ABS. No need for a key here, just an on/off button to start the powder.
The R1 GYTR R24 comes with an all-white poly. All you have to do is paint it and add your sponsors. There's no choice but to go to a Yamaha GYTR Pro Shops, the centers specially qualified for this level of sports bike preparation.
The 2024 edition is ready for big gas on the track. But there's nothing to stop you going further, much further, with the GYTR department. With the right budget, you can ride the R1 a little, a lot, up to Superbike level.
