presentation of the YZF-R1 1000 GMT 94 Replica 2009
this limited edition R1 is much more than a Replica. Presented just 3 weeks before the Bol d'Or 2009, this hypersport bike in the GMT 94 colors tells a story. Behind this racing number in the middle of the forehead, which has become as famous in endurance racing as the 46 is in MotoGP, lies the passion, dedication and achievement of one man: Christophe Guyot.
christophe is the story of a guy, an amateur who competed in the French Superbike championship in the early 90s. When he takes off his helmet, he's a schoolteacher (no, he doesn't ride a Voxan... ;-), a trust enthusiast, a guitar player too- When he puts on his combarde, he slams clocks, he wins, he struggles, he perseveres, he believes, he fights; and he's French SBK champion in 1998. Endurance first, glory later. With his team created in 1992, Guyot Motorcycle Team 94, and his snake-eyed motorcycle, Christophe came to tickle the best. In 2003, Yamaha reached out to him, providing support and a bike, the R1 - a machine that still couldn't oust the indomitable Suzuki GSX-R 1000 of the time. But the brand with the tuning forks was perfecting a new weapon with which GMT would not regret its choice. In 2004, the new R1, a sublime and fearsome hypersport, arrived on the market, on the circuits, and won the Endurance World Championship under the red and blue colors. Now playing on equal terms with the SERT, Guyot and Méliand fight, respect and appreciate each other, and take it in turns to conquer Le Mans, Le BOL D'OR and the titles.
all that was missing was a bike in their colors to make the GMT's success a legend. Yamaha Motor France is offering 6 such bikes, each with the same design as the machine entered in this year's World Endurance Championship. The only difference (apart from the racing parts) is that the reptile eyes have been moved to the sides of the forkhead.
as with the R1 MotoGP Replica, the new owners will be entitled to a special ceremony to collect their machines. In the presence of GMT 94, the keys will be handed over on the starting grid of the Bol d'or 2009, in front of the grandstands. Afterwards, the 6 chosen ones will be able to follow the entire race from the team's private box. As for Christophe, he won't have time to look back on his 15 years of excellence: the race awaits him, and so do the spectators.
