presentation of the XJ6 600 Diversion 2012

The XJS 600 Diversion was Yamaha's entry-level tourer that many young people loved. Easy, inexpensive, uncomplicated, a little short on power but ready for any service without fuss, this all-rounder didn't lack for hard work and acquitted itself without ever complaining. But anti-pollution standards, fashion and age meant that it slowly died out at the beginning of the 21st century, leaving a gap in the Yamaha range that the more technical, higher-end Fazer couldn't fill.
But then came the pleasant surprise. 2009 saw the birth of a new 600 cm3 small tourer: the XJ6 Diversion. And as good news never comes alone, this basic motorcycle doubles up as a naked version, ideal for driving schools and young license holders.

like their predecessors, these two versions are technically extremely similar. The main and almost only difference between the 2 versions is the Diversion's fork head. Angular without being sharp, it gives a sporty feel and, above all, judicious protection. The road is accessible to all, and especially to young people, that's what it's all about.

Yamaha XJ6 600 Diversion 2012 with all the technology that modern sports bikes unleash on us, we've almost forgotten about simple solutions. Not the XJ6 Diversion. Like its XJS grandmother, it adopts a quieter design than the technological showcases. Here, no variable intake, perimeter Deltabox, traction control, radial brake calipers or MotoGP-style inverted forks... No, here, we use what we need to ride, not to slam clocks, and if this 600 doesn't have the chassis of a hypersport, it's not for us.may not have the chassis of a hypersport (radical and unbearable on the open road), it does have a more affordable price than the Fazer (very close to that of its rivals) and a far superior road capability.
Arsouiller? The XJ6 Diversion will appreciate it moderately. Riding pleasure? It's back to smiling. The technical solutions implemented here confirm this trend. The bike uses a classic tubular steel diamond frame, less expensive than an aluminum perimeter like that of the FZ6. These 31.8 mm-diameter tubes are 2.3 mm thick, creating a simple frame that almost disappears beneath the bodywork. The exhaust is also very discreet, tucked away under the engine and behind the tailpipe. Both wheelbase and rake reveal reassuringly wise values. A new fork, new aluminum rims and a new swingarm are all part of the package. The latter doesn't look like much, but that's not what we ask of it.
Brake discs are slightly thinner than those on the FZ6. They are associated with conventional 2-piston calipers, optionally doubled with ABS (+ 400 euros).
Ah, I see some of you pouting in the background... Is it the normal 41 mm fork that's bothering you? Doesn't it look sharp enough? You'd prefer an inverted fork like on a 600 GSX-R, with a sharpened frame... Yeah, but that's not the philosophy of this machine; and the gex costs 4,000 euros more.

Yamaha XJ6 600 Diversion 2012 - 1Yamaha XJ6 600 Diversion 2012 - 1

Yamaha XJ6 600 Diversion 2012 when it comes to powertrains, there's no question of using an old-fashioned air-cooled engine like the late XJS. The new Diversion uses a modern, clean and compact 4-cylinder. Coming from the FZ6, and originally derived from the R6, this distiller is somewhat modified and adapted to versatile and available use. Engine response, torque and mapping are optimized for the low and mid-range revs most commonly used on this type of machine. Let's hope this new mill has more character than the old 600 8-valve air-cooled engine, which was smooth and gentle but lacking in character. The cylinder head, camshafts, fuel injection, clutch and gearbox selection have all been revised. Hopefully, it will make us forget the rough shifts of the old XJ 600s.

The XJ disappeared... and was reborn under a misleading name. Same philosophy but more modern, more enticing, it arrives at just the right time to take on the new Kawasaki ER-6f, Suzuki Bandit 650 and the recently renewed Honda CBF 600.

Petite moto très bas de gamme ..
French Pierre71 Model 2013
I've been riding motorcycles for over 40 years, and I was also looking in my garage for a pretty little 600 4-legged for its lightness, low seat height and flexible engine, with at least 60 horsepower.
There's the Yamaha XJ6, which is pretty, low-slung, easy to handle, a delight in town and when maneuvering on foot, and the engine can idle at over 12,000 rpm
It's great
Where it doesn't go at all well is
1) the sausage chassis: you can see the swingarm move when you accelerate a bit, and it's very annoying when you accelerate, as you get the impression that the bike wants to go sideways
2) the very unpleasant gearbox, which slams and/or refuses to shift gears at low and medium revs, as only Yamaha can do. Above 6000/7000 revs it's fine, but I'm rarely at these revs for city riding or touring
3) injection management is simple and crude, with unpleasant jerks at low revs.
4) the short range of 200/250km, due to a consumption of 5 to 6L per 100 without forcing, with a 17l fuel tank
The rest is tolerable for the price: average brakes, average forks
A good point for reliability
It's a cute little low-end roadster that pulls short and is a lot of fun to ride, without expecting more
In comparison, the 2000 600 Fazer was far superior in versatility.

Motorcycle license obtained in 2013 at the age of 45, I bought a new xj6 diversion, today, ie 5 years later, the xj6 has 30,000 kms without failure, drives very well, good acceleration, you do not feel the passenger, I'm very happy. I intend to keep it * J R G Rating : 5/5
Genial même en A2
French pat18000 Model 2010
Easy to drive, great finish in Naked Edition, works great at low revs in town. Rating : 4/5
Pas mal du tout
French InnaDiJam Model 2013
Coming out of the 2014 CB500F, the change is remarkable in terms of power, although it's actually released later than on the bi.

Fitted with PR2 for the time being, it's no surprise that the center of gravity seems slightly higher and therefore a little more technical on the angle than the CB500F. We'll have to wait and see, once we've fitted the new Roadtec01.

Superb motorization, effective fairing protection, its weight isn't that disturbing. It's easy to handle and accessible from the height of my metre 69.
Pleasant to ride as a duo, both in terms of the absence of jerks and the seating position.

A versatile bike. A must for everyone.

Yamaha xj6 diversion !
French Toto-riina9292 Model 2013
For my first motorcycle, it's a blast!
It's got a real kick from 6500rpm upwards, it's great fun, it's got a good feel and a good geule!
A great bike for beginners!

On the downside, there's a problem with the gears at standstill, and it's hard to shift into neutral in second gear...

nice little bike, lacks peachiness, good for getting to work
HIGHLIGHTS: easy to handle, easy to ride, Yamaha service

THE MINUSES: for the passenger, a hellishly awkward seat and quickly painful leg position (mad not big)
very, very average protection

not bad indeed but i think it's a shame that yamaha didn't think of us europeans for the all-carenne model called fz6r and reserved for the american market. with my 1m95 and my 98kg the er6f is too small and i'm going to end up having to choose between a gsxf650 and .......... nothing. besides 7000$ in the USA 6500€ here vive l'egalite
