presentation of the F 800 R 2016

the BMW F 800 R doesn't have an easy time making a career for itself. Within the BMW range, it remains in the shadow of a fully accomplished R 1200 R (yet 60% more expensive). In the mid-size roadster clan, it's a real challenge to compete with the Triumph Street Triple, Yamaha MT-09, Suzuki GSR or Z 800 - with 100 horsepower or more - with a twin-cylinder 87-banger. And yet, the machine lacks neither pleasure nor efficiency. Perhaps it just lacks that little grain of madness that the competition strives to cultivate. To remedy this, the new model takes a more cheeky approach, while retaining the seriousness of BMW?

the F 800 R plays several roles: versatile roadster and entry-level BMW. It leaves the fury to the S 1000 R and the notoriety to the R 1200 R. It's only a short step from there to a slight frustration with its identity. So she decides to change her look. What to do with those asymmetrical eyes, symbol of the BMW brand and source of both light and questions? It's time to forget about them, to make way for a more aggressive and prominent block. A certain influence from the face of the Husqvarna 900 Nuda, a short-lived cousin. And the teenage crisis concludes with the tank scoops (the fake ones) that conquer fresher air on the front of the machine. At the rear and under the seat, the fuel filler flap is still in full effect, allowing you to fill the (real) tank under the seat. Rebellion is also present where you least expect it: on the dashboard. Everyone's succumbing to the digital trend. But the F 800 R has kept two good needle-type units to indicate rpm and speed. A digital window rounds out the information available. When classic becomes original...

BMW F 800 R 2016 - 1BMW F 800 R 2016 - 1

still equipped with a 798 cm3 parallel twin, the F 800 R wanted a little more wattage to assert itself. So the engine-makers gave it 3 extra horsepower. The 90 hp obtained at the same 8,000 rpm, and the 8.8 mkg torque perched at 'only' 5,800 rpm, will not be the only ones to offer more response. The first two gear ratios have been shortened for more robust acceleration. Not lazy, willing and available, this block will satisfy many people in all situations, but it still lacks a handful of horsepower to challenge the segment's fulminants. It is also available in A2 version, with power reduced to 35 kW (48 bhp) and torque reduced to 7.1 mkg.

the front end is more spirited. As if to match the fervor of the optical block, the steering is now entrusted to an inverted fork. This gives the little BM greater rigidity and precision. This is continued and confirmed at the bottom of the same fork, with the adoption of radial-mount brake calipers.
The rest of the chassis remains the same, with aluminum perimeter frame, engine-mounted swingarm and monoshock. The latter can now be reinforced with ESA as an option. With a click of the button, the electronics set it to Normal, Comfort or Sport mode. It's a pity that the forks are not fitted in concert. The roadster can also be fitted with optional ASC traction control. ABS, on the other hand, comes as standard.

pleasant to ride from birth, the F 800 R has refined its ergonomics with new handlebars and footrests that have been moved forward and lowered by 10 mm. A touch of relaxation for the legs. The seat has also been lowered to 790 mm (-10 mm), making it easier for smaller riders. But if this seat height doesn't suit you, you can adjust it as an option.

with a touch of playfulness to contrast with its German-like rigor and versatility, the F 800 R makes its mark, and its evolution confirms its good manners. Pricing remains focused on the entry-level segment, allowing you to buy a roadster bearing the Bavarian stamp for the same price as other mid-size roadsters. The F 800 R, on the other hand, boasts a far more extensive list of options, which can push the bill beyond the 5-figure mark.

A real treat. I've got a 2019 A2-bridged version and yet every time I go out with friends, they tell me, "No way, your bike isn't bridled. I tend to ride it a lot (preferably on small roads and in the mountains), and fuel consumption is low, between 4.5 and 5 liters. The chassis is great, it holds up really well, and there's no weird reaction even on rough roads. The suspension is very good, working really well on all types of road. The sport mode is quite stiff but very responsive. As for braking, the front is very serious, you feel confident and you really have to go for it to activate the ABS. The rear brake (I use it a lot in the mountains) is a bit light, more of a retarder. From a comfort point of view, it's good, no backache, I've spent up to 10h on it and it feels good. The rear is quite comfortable for the passenger, especially as I've got a box with a little foam for the back. Mechanically, it's impressive in A2, with a high-performance clutch. It chokes at 7,000 rpm, but before that, it pushes and the torque is there. You can push it to 170 (not in France!!) The dynamic driving mode is interesting when you want to feel more reaction, it gives, as the name suggests, good dynamics. I have a mid-high bubble, which seems to me the minimum for road use.
Saddle at 790 or 800, I don't know, but it's perfect for 1.74m, with my 2 feet just flat on the front of the saddle. I'm riding a Metzeler Z8, which goes perfectly with the bike, always reliable in any context and inspires confidence. So, a very good bike that's not very well known, in terms of quality, it's BMW. I'm going to have it de-trimmed in a while, which should add to the pleasure of riding this bike

Bought it a few months ago. I've put a thousand kilometers on it, and the more I ride, the more I love it! It's torquey, powerful (full version), comfortable, not to mention its exceptional Brembo brakes. The only minor drawback is a side stand that's too short, reminding me of my stilettos, and which, given its thinness, has an annoying tendency to sink into soft ground.
Apart from this detail, the results are more than positive. Last but not least, for us women, it has a low seat height (original BMW option) with a well-designed indentation, allowing both feet to be on the ground, which is reassuring (I'm 1m66).

I love this bike, although it was difficult to get started with my 2017 model, as I was expecting a German touring roadster that was flexible, reliable, supple, comfortable and even a little flexible. Duo vacations with suitcases and GPS are possible because the bike is reliable, economical and comfortable +++, it can be equipped for touring very easily, for flexibility you have to stay above 3,000 rpm otherwise it's grimace soup, thanks to the Euro 4 standard.
I'm 52 years old and I can't help but draw parallels with the Ducatis of the 90s, and I'm not just talking about the sound delivered by the SCProject cartridge, the engine is a pain below 3,000 rpm and brilliant above that, the chassis is beyond reproach, as are the brakes and suspension, a precise rail in curves, a 900SS wouldn't have done any better, comfort aside.
So much so that I bought a combi for track sessions... between two RGAs, this BM is a (German) Swiss Army knife.

I have the full version (90hp! ) and it's an easy bike. I'm quite happy with it. Low seat height, for me who's 1m72, it's cool, but a more comfortable seat would be welcome. The neutral position is often difficult to find. But above all, it's the engine noise that bothers me. It reminds me more of a 125 than a big cube (although it's in perfect condition!).

Apart from that, it's as playful as can be, and a delight to ride...

Hello everyone! Here's my review of this motorrad! It's a comfortable roadster (with original comfort seat). There's plenty of room on the handlebars (trail width). You can move around on the seat. A real passenger seat! So rare these days! Room under the seat for a yellow vest, tubless repair kit, headlight bulb and nightlight. Indispensable I think. Good chassis, good brakes and the appetite of a bird. 3.6 liters on main roads and 4.7 liters on mixed roads. By the way, I'm 61 years old and I've calmed down, and this bike has enough horsepower for me to enjoy myself. I mostly ride under 5,000 rpm... you get the idea, I love this bike. By the way, I don't have to worry about neutral... the tank under the seat is great for repairing the masses! And no need to remove the saddlebag to fill up! Only one fault with injection when going backwards in traffic at around 3000 rpm! A bit chi... see with BM if adjustment possible ! In conclusion, very versatile, comfortable and economical, even for two people! Maybe my last! V à vous et prenez soin de vous ! Rating : 4/5

French SVERDIER Model 2018
Young Biker, 45 years old..., 2018 F800R model
Very versatile model. Top and balanced chassis
One of the best front axle and brakes
Yes, it lacks a bit of power, but the torque is available very low
Cold neutral is a problem, but once the engine is warm, no more worries
Flanged model. I chose this model because it's the one with the best clamping. No holes on acceleration or at any rpm. The clamping is at the very top of 6th gear. From 180 onwards, you feel you've reached the end
Pleasant position, suitable for 2-up riding
Not to be compared with the much more powerful and exclusive Triumph or KTM
Even the new F900R, which I like less aesthetically, retains this spirit of versatility and ease of riding. A reassuring motorcycle. BMW: a cushy image, apart from the exclusive S1000R (to be acquired in a few months' time) & S1000RR models, but to try a BMW is to adopt it. Take the test

I only have one problem with it, and it's a big one: when it rains, the passenger gets wet behind the thighs at buttock level and behind the calves

Bonheur A2
French Franck Model 2019
My first 2016 A2 bike. Nothing but good things! On group outings, I'm never at a loss (except for short stretches on the freeway, where the throttle limits me all the same), but the torque is in shambles at low revs, the throttle picks up in any gear, and the feeling of permanent reliability can play tricks (personal experience).
I love this bike! But then, it's like being in love: the first one is always exceptional!

I tested one this week with a view to a possible purchase. Like Gui17, IÂ've noticed a major problem in finding the neutral point. If this is a recurring problem with this ceramic, it doesnÂ't make you want to buy... Any other opinions on the subject? Rating : 5/5

I tried a bridled version of the f800r, in a dealership, and I was very surprised by the performance, at 180, I cut it but it was not at the limit, the dealer confirmed that the machine was indeed bridled, I have doubts, what do you think? The other bikes I tried were probably at 160
Much lower acceleration too
Thanks for your feedback

A machine that can be ridden like a bicycle, but with extra watts!
The canes are a little too bent when you're 1.90 and over, which is the only handicap when you're tired after a day at the office...
