presentation of the 1100 MONSTER S 2010

the absolute Monster! That's how Ducati describes its new big roadster from the most famous family of naked machines. After the 696, which inaugurated the line's new face for the decade to come, it was only to be expected that the range would repeat the theme of renewal. This 1100 is the 2nd to receive the new Monster chassis and design. For the occasion, it grafts the big 1078 cc of the Hypermotard and Multistrada, making it the biggest air-cooled Monster in the range's history.

big displacement, big torque, and if its 95 hp doesn't sound like much to you, don't forget that Ducati fiercely defends its desmodromic twins aided by air cooling and 2 valves per cylinder. Less power out the box, but available much sooner, with more character, and more than 10 mkg in the trunks.

but Ducatists and neophytes alike will spend more time detailing this pretty jewel from Bologna than criticizing the team. The overall look is reminiscent of the 696, with a single stylized headlamp, minimalist trellis frame supported by aluminum side plates, double pot under the seat surrounds, small mirrors and fully digital instrument cluster. But to be an 1100, you need more class, more scope.
This is reflected in the presence of a beautifully crafted single-arm, most certainly taken from the 848/1098 duo. It's an admirable piece that visually sets off the superb Y-shaped rim. The front is even more drool-worthy. This S version is fitted with an elegant 43 mm Öhlins inverted fork and Brembo radial calipers. The carbon parts save a little weight, but it's the workmanship throughout the machine that speaks for itself. This Monster 1100 S comes in at 168 kg dry weight, almost 10 less than the previous S2R 1000.
Compact, characterful, well-equipped, and the first to be noticed, the new 1100 Monster should make a successful debut among temperamental roadsters.

the 1100 Monster is also available in a standard version at 11,200 euros, but you won't get the Öhlins fork, the gold color on the rims, fewer carbon parts, and 1 kg more to carry.

French Chicboy Model 2009
A Voxan Café Racer could provide more thrilling sensations than the Monster, and a sublime silouhette.
Admittedly heavier, but larger tank capacity, liquid cooling, better protection, fuel gauge (not on the Monster), easier-to-read meters (nice blue lighting)
Performance/behavior: Voxan could hold its own against Monster, with the advantage of greater comfort
On the terrace, a matter of taste: Monster on one side, Café Racer on the other.
