presentation of the 675 Daytona 2009

who remembers the days when England ruled the world, when there were more motorcycle brands than ships on the English Channel, when the mention of names like Sunbeam, Velocette, Norton sent a shiver down the spine?

and then came the CB 750. It took England almost 40 years to recover from the shock. But the comeback was masterly. A sword on the islands of the rising sun with a legendary name: Daytona. The 675 Daytona to be exact. A machine so formidable that it immediately upset the stars in its class... and even in the top segment. A slap in the face that Triumph intends to keep close to the cheeks of the competition. To this end, 3 years after its first appearance, the 675 Daytona is evolving. No big changes, just enough to keep it at a very high level.

let me warn you right away: it's better to have a trained eye to distinguish the new version of Hinckley's sports car. Apart from the new, longer headlamps, which give it a more pronounced look, a longer fork head, new indicators and a plate in front of the forced-air intake, the 2009 675 looks very much like the first model. The upgrade focused more on the technical side and less on the visual.

triumph has used its experience gained in the World Supersport Championship to improve the specifications of its little bomb. The three-cylinder engine is now capable of 450 rpm more than before, and develops 3 more horsepower for a total of 128 horsepower. It's worth noting that the machine now includes some elements of the Racing kit as standard. The little 2009 Daytona comes with a new exhaust system 2 kilos lighter, recalibrated fuel injection, modified combustion chambers, a few internal modifications and, as a nice little add-on, a pre-wiring for a shifter.

the chassis has also been improved. The 41 mm inverted fork now features slow and fast compression adjustment in addition to the usual multitude. The Nissin calipers are now monobloc for greater consistency and feel. The new wheels, meanwhile, should bring more liveliness to corner changes. And they're not shod with just anything: Pirelli Diablo SPs - practically slick.

at 162 kg, the new 675 Daytona fails to match (on paper) the CBR 600 weight record. However, its 128-horsepower, 3-cylinder puncheur is enough to curl its whiskers. This evolution of the British sportsbike, which was particularly gifted from the outset, should delight a large number of enthusiasts, and even more track racers.

Just a quick reaction to this sentence
"Triumph is the only European manufacturer that plays in the same league as the other big four (Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Ducati)."

Ducati isn't European? The Italians will appreciate that.

French Model 2009
superb machine, as classy as ever, it was already making Japanese women tremble before, but what will it be now? There are engineers who will be seriously cogitating in the land of the rising sun. Rating : 5/5
