presentation of the DS 2012
the new 2012 Zero DS is built on the same innovative new platform as the 2012 Zero S. The Zero DS is capable of topping the 160 km mark (tested by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - EPA to UDDS standards). The Zero DS inaugurates a new-generation powertrain based on 4 elements: a brushless motor capable of reaching a top speed of 129 km/h, 20 km/h more than the previous version; a new battery and cell configuration; energy recovery during braking; and a battery designed to last the life of the motorcycle. Customers can choose according to their needs: the new ZF6 and ZF9 packs can respectively achieve 120 Km and 180 Km according to EPA-UDDS tests. Depending on the pack chosen, seat height varies from 897 to 883 mm. The ZF6 is rated for 326,000 km, while the ZF9 is rated for 487,000 km. Charging times and weight also vary.
the design integrates the new powertrain, ventilation system and body components to ensure easy maintenance and optimum cooling. Revised geometry and resized brake discs improve handling and braking performance.
the Zero DS 2012 is visually different from its predecessor in terms of fairing extensions, components and graphics. Built around an aviation-style black aluminum frame, it introduces new spoked and reinforced rims, a shorter gear ratio, and is available with the chain option. The new, more modern headlight adds the finishing touch to the Zero DS's elegant design.
in figures, expect to pay 11,495 euros, 135 kilos and 120 km range for a DS with the ZF6 package. The top version, with ZF9, weighs 20 kilos more, costs 13,995 euros, but provides 50% more range.
