presentation of the DS 2017
The Zero DS combines innovation and passion to create the world's most versatile electric motorcycle. Designed to be agile on muddy terrain and fast on asphalt, the Zero DS embodies a new style of freedom.
on a rocky road or a dusty trail, when you're ready, it'll switch smoothly from the wild to the civilized world to get you where you want to go. The Zero DS is tough when you need it to be, but still distinguished.
powered by the most advanced technology on the market, the Zero DS is an all-electric motorcycle that can venture onto any surface. Overcoming obstacles and staying in control is child's play, thanks to the direct-drive powertrain and fully adjustable suspension. In technical riding conditions, Zero Motorcycles' revolutionary Z-Force® motor delivers astonishing responsiveness with a simple twist of the wrist. Like all Zero models, the Zero DS gives its owner a sense of freedom, thanks to a maintenance-free powertrain, fuel costs of one or two cents per kilometer, and powerful acceleration.
the Zero DS and Zero DSR share much of the DNA of the Zero S, and incorporate technology that makes them suitable for a wide range of conditions. Whether in the mud or on the road, Pirelli's mixed sport tires help maintain grip. The Showa suspension system specially designed for this model absorbs bumps. The result is a sports bike ready to tackle any surface.
z-Force® battery technology: range of over 230 km and life of over 550,000 km
the Zero DS and Zero DSR feature advanced chemical cell and battery management systems for greater capacity and longer range. The ZF13.0 power pack gives you over 230 km and is designed to last as long as your bike. The result of cutting-edge research and development: each cell in the power pack is individually controlled and monitored to ensure optimum performance.
power Tank technology - up to 296 km in town
the Z-Force® Power Tank provides an additional 3.3 kWh of storage capacity to the power pack of any 2014 or later Zero DS or Zero DSR motorcycle. Available as an option, the Power Tank can be added at any time, at or after purchase, increasing the maximum battery capacity to 16.3 kWh. With this level of energy, a rider can cover up to 296 km in town or 142 km on the freeway.
z-Force® engine - up to 52 kW net power, 146 Nm...and incredible efficiency
zero Motorcycles designed the Z-Force® engine from the ground up to be compact, efficient and powerful. The Zero DSR delivers exhilarating acceleration and can reach a top speed of 158 km/h (DSR version). Fully air-cooled, the engine provides a fantastic driving experience with no routine maintenance. When you slow down, the engine generates electricity which is fed back into the power pack to increase range.
chassis and bodywork
the double-cradle frame is built exclusively from aircraft-grade aluminum. Lightweight and robust, it's one of the main reasons for the bikes' exceptional riding precision on dirt and street. Designed to have a low center of gravity, the Zero DS and Zero DSR are highly maneuverable and responsive. The refined, rugged appearance is rounded off by elegant bodywork with a modern, aggressive, stripped-back look. The tank area of the body features an integrated, lockable and removable storage compartment. The tank area can also be replaced by the Power Tank accessory for greater autonomy.
showa suspension
zero Motorcycles worked closely with Showa to develop the suspension systems. These handle small bumps perfectly, control larger impacts predictably and smooth out the action in all conditions. The rigid torsion of the front end offers improved handling, while the hollow front axle reduces unsprung weight. Suspension settings are fully customizable to meet the requirements of most riders.
wheels and tires
the Zero DS is fitted as standard with Pirelli tires that provide great traction in a wide range of conditions, excellent longevity and great road feel. The tires are mounted on elegant, durable cast-alloy wheels.
dashboard and controls
zero's dashboard is designed to provide fast, useful and accurate information such as charge level, power output and selected riding profile. You can juggle the three riding modes using the ergonomic switch on the right to better determine your riding needs: sport, eco, custom. The dashboard display is a blue backlit LCD screen. It blends in perfectly with the front of the motorcycle. Want more information about your motorcycle while you're riding or at home? Try the Zero Motorcycles app.
zero Motorcycles applications
with the Zero Motorcycles app, you have access to detailed information about your motorcycle, such as remaining recharge time, average watts per kilometer, total recharge cycles and much more. When you're stationary, the app lets you set the performance profile of the customized riding mode, adjusting parameters for maximum speed, maximum torque and maximum regenerative braking. When you're riding your bike, your cell phone transforms into a personalized dashboard that gives you real-time, detailed information about your bike. Synchronized with Bluetooth, the application works on iPhone and Android-based mobile devices.
clutchless drive
featuring clutchless direct drive, the Zero DS and Zero DSR are designed for rapid acceleration and maximum efficiency. Without ever having to change gear, acceleration is controlled and powerful at any speed between 0 and 158 km/h. The carbon-fiber belt eliminates minimal friction losses and increases overall range. What's more, it also plays a key role in eliminating powertrain maintenance and noise
on the recharging side
zero Motorcycles' charging options are designed to suit your lifestyle. Every Zero motorcycle comes standard with a simple, lightweight cable that plugs into any household outlet.
for use at home or in the office, Zero Motorcycles' fast, expandable charger system can dramatically reduce recharging times. The system uses up to four independent (external) 1 kW chargers used in conjunction with the motorcycle's standard (built-in) charger.
