presentation of the KX 450 F 2013
clearly, the KX450F needs no introduction. On the other side of the Atlantic, in the USA, the machine won both the Supercross and Motocross championships last year, taking both AMA titles.
once again this year, the 2012 KX 450 F proved its superiority, securing a new AMA Supercross crown before the championship was even over! At mid-season in the GPMX1 category, the KX 450 F is a permanent podium contender, having scored a superb one-two finish in each of the two rounds at the Bulgarian GP in Sevlievo.
For 2013, the main improvements to the KX 450 F concern the latest-generation pneumatic front fork - a first for a production machine! Thanks to these modifications, "taming" the beast and exploiting its fearsome potential are made easier for the rider, in a position to sweep away the competition, at any time and on any terrain.
key features :
High-tech suspension: latest-generation pneumatic front fork (PSF).
- This highly advanced system uses compressed air instead of springs.
Advantages of the PSF system :
- Greater resistance to heeling and better track holding:
During the compression phase, the resistance offered by compressed air is greater than that of a spring; in the relaxation phase, air offers less resistance than a spring.
- Extended adjustment range :
The adjustment range of the PSF fork is significantly greater than that of a traditional spring-loaded fork.
- Ultra-precise adjustment: riders are not limited to the basic or optional settings of spring systems.
- Easy adjustment with just an inflator and adapter.
increased engine power
performance gains are clear at all engine speeds (especially torque from very low to mid-range), thanks in particular to the new shape of the piston crown and the new mapping of the electronic control unit.
start control mode
a system borrowed from the factory machines of official AMA teams gives riders an appreciable advantage when race starts are given in tricky grip conditions.
choice of injection settings.
the injection system's quick-release couplings give easy access to 3 engine maps: Standard / Easy conditions / Difficult conditions. Each of these engine maps can be modified using the KX FI calibration kit.
adjustable ergonomics
riders can ideally adjust their riding position thanks to 4 handlebar adjustment positions and 2 footrest positions. What's more, the rider interface has been refined and designed with racing in mind
petal brake discs
the new discs are combined with a new master cylinder and brake pads for enhanced braking and control.
factory" styling
with redesigned front and rear mudguards, decorations inspired by factory machines, black alumite* rims and fork protectors, blue alumite* treatment of the suspension links and a bluethe KX450F's dynamic look perfectly matches its high level of performance.
* Alumite: anodic oxidation treatment of aluminum to produce a protective colored film that resists scratches and corrosion.
